The Company
Amblin Partners, a leading company in the entertainment industry, is seeking a Controller who will oversee the organization's accounting and financial reporting department while working closely with the CFO to report on financial operations.
Responsibilities will include but may not be limited to:
• Oversee day-to-day operational accounting, including accounts receivable and payable, general ledger, production funding, and payroll. Ensure conformance with GAAP accounting.
• Drive and manage timely and accurate GAAP basis monthly financials with emphasis on revenue recognition, film cost amortization and impairment, and 3rd party obligations (participations and residuals).
• Strong ability to convert accrual basis financials to detailed cash reporting for compliance to key stakeholders, including providing monthly detailed schedules of cash spend.
• Supervise and administer the company's cash accounts, foreign currency transactions, and wires. Oversee collection of accounts receivable. Must have ability to budget and project future cash flows to senior management.
• Liaise with tax accountants to timely file LLC tax returns and K-1s, as well as project related K-1s prior to year-end. Manage the timely filing of 1099s, W-2s, and other business filings.
• Maintain various SPVs and company org chart with outside counsel. Work closely with production finance and outside tax accountants to qualify for, file, and collect related production tax credits.
• Lead and own annual audit report as well as provide unaudited quarterly balance sheet, P&L and cash flow statements for investor and bank reporting.
• Adhere to the company's compliance deadlines under its credit facility and LLC agreements by providing quarterly financials and working closing with finance to maintain compliance of its borrowing base through funding reports and cash projections
• Proactively identify and implement solutions that mitigate risk, improve internal controls and processes throughout the organization.
• Must be comfortable and experienced in overseeing payroll for accuracy and reporting deadlines. Administer 401k plan and reporting.
• Develop and mentor staff, leading by example with a strong work ethic and providing meaningful goals and objectives as well as thoughtful and timely feedback on performance.
• Ad hoc requests as necessary.
Qualifications
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience in accounting within the media and entertainment industry
• CPA required (Active license strongly preferred)
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, mathematics, statistics or other relevant field that demonstrates quantitative orientation.
• Technical accounting skills, including the ability to interpret and apply accounting standards and policies to business transactions
• Solid understanding of entertainment industry best practices.
• Internal controls and accounting process and systems experience, including maintenance of Sarbanes-Oxley control environment
• Strong communication skills and pro-active approach to building and sustaining collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders
• Strong excel skills and ability to use Great Plains.
• High level of personal integrity and professional ethics
