Full Time Job
Amazon Music is seeking a Music Programmer to serve as our Genre Lead for Jazz & Classical programming. The lead will own all aspects of programming for these genres, driving audience engagement for our streaming service in the U.S., and liaising with programmers globally. The programmer will be part of The US Music Programming Team, responsible for creating, managing and optimizing curated musical content for our customers. He/She/They will also contribute to other tasks and projects such as coordinating on behalf of Music Programming for cross-functional marketing efforts, providing input on technical improvements, and planning content around an editorial calendar and the weekly new release schedule.
Along with solid experience in music curation, the candidate must be music-obsessed with an in-depth knowledge of Jazz & Classical and related sub-genres. This tech-savvy individual thrives in a fast-paced work environment, owns entire work streams end-to-end, and collaborates with other team members and stakeholders on projects of a broader scale. The ability to balance long-term strategic work with day-to-day execution is also key, as we constantly seek to expand and improve the listening experience for Amazon Music customers.
Key Responsibilities:
• Serve as Amazon Music's Genre expert music programmer for stations and playlists across Jazz & Classical, related sub-genres, and other projects as directed by the team leader.
• Update and curate assigned stations and playlists using Programming tenets and data from Amazon tooling on a regular cadence (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly).
• Dive into available data on stations, playlists, and individual tracks to inform understanding of customer tastes, optimize customer experience, and maximize customer engagement.
• Apply extensive musical knowledge to the creation of hand-curated programming for Amazon Music's growing customer base, including the general audience and targeted fans of genres and artists.
• Use expertise on genres, sub-genres, artists, albums, tracks, and trends to inform algorithmic programming at scale; work with developers to optimize customer experience for catalog music within genres of expertise.
• Collaborate with Voice and Visual product teams to enhance discovery of priority playlists and stations to ensure ideal user experience on Alexa and visual interfaces.
• Devise and maintain a strategy for connecting fans with songs and artists through various types of programming (genre, era, mood, activity, etc.), whether discovering music for the first time or rediscovering old favorites.
• Help design or implement curation-related processes, and help identify areas where new processes and mechanisms will aid in team efficiency.
• Work cross-functionally with global programmers -- as well as product, tech, and catalog, teams -- around special projects, product launches, innovations and ongoing initiatives.
• Own long-lead schedule for featuring artists and content in playlists, on cover artwork, and in out-of-home advertising; track coverage for calendar events including anniversaries and other landmark events; communicate with stakeholder teams to prioritize teams in Design, Artist Marketing, and Label and Artist Relations.
• Use a combination of aesthetic judgment and available data to identify opportunities, to create new playlists and stations, and to deprecate old ones.
• Integrate into overall team work streams (music programming and programming-adjacent) and contribute to team goals and strategies.
This role can sit in either LA, Seattle or NYC
