SUMMARY:
Responsible for all accounting-related activities including overseeing the general ledger, tax-requirements (directing company's outside tax accountants), managing the annual financial statement audit, and other such related activities. The Senior Accountant will set up the Company's initial processes (including system implementation under the supervision of COO and SVP Finance & Operations), administer the monthly close process, prepare general ledger activities, financial statements (income statements, balance sheets, statement of s/h equity, statement of cash flows, and cash flow projections) and prepare related analyses across the Company's business lines and special projects. The ideal candidate is someone who is a self-starter with a good personality fit with the team, capable of balancing multiple tasks, as well as someone who is a team player but capable of completing all tasks without detailed supervision, possesses strong technical skills and is detailed oriented.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Spearhead all tasks related to the implementation and launch of company's accounting (Intacct) and expense reimbursement systems (Nexonia) including (but not limited to): defining chart of accounts, customer and vendor numeration, designing financial reports, develop testing plan.
• Oversees and/or leads preparation of general ledger journal entries, fixed asset tracking, monthly balance sheet reconciliation, and bank reconciliation.
• Responsible for accurate and timely month-end close; produces month-end financial reports and issues to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
• Analyses and reconciles balance sheet accounts.
• Reports, analyzes, and interprets financial and operating data for management.
• Prepares, reviews, and interprets data for inclusion in financial reports, statements, and summaries.
• Reviews financial data for accuracy; identifies problems and supports day-to-day operations.
• Pays vendors by monitoring discount opportunities; verifying federal id numbers; scheduling and preparing checks; resolving purchase order, contract, invoice, or payment discrepancies and documentation; insuring credit is received for outstanding memos; issuing stop-payments or purchase order amendments.
• Collects cash and obtains revenue by verifying transaction information; computing charges and refunds; preparing and mailing invoices; identifying delinquent accounts and insufficient payments.
• Responsible for adoption of new accounting standards including but not limited to researching standard, preparing written accounting policy for company, and preparing new disclosures.
• Perform company cash flow analysis including but not limited to tracking cash flow activity, preparing reports, and analyzing information for management.
• Prepares monthly and quarterly reporting and analyses for the treasurer, controller, and others.
• Develops accounting policy and offers advice regarding accounting and internal control issues, reporting needs, and policy review and changes.
• Develops reporting and variance analysis regarding departmental operating budget versus actual expenses and cash forecasting analysis.
• Analyzes and maintains all accounts receivable accounts, refund accounts, and deposit accounts.
• Administers annual external audits and tax reporting requirements
• Assists with related special projects as required.
• Implement accounting policies and procedures for continuous process improvement
• Close Joint Ventures on a monthly basis and maintain close binders
• Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent required
• CPA preferred
• Public Accounting experience preferred
• Entertainment industry experience highly preferred
• Experience with multiple entity consolidation highly preferred
• Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience
• Experience with Intacct (to be implemented upon start), Nexonia and iRights a plus
• Knowledge/Skills:
o Strong understanding of US GAAP as well as general tax and accounting processes
o Expert proficiency in Microsoft Windows environment, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word (mastery of Excel, in particular, will dictate success in the role)
o Excellent communication across all levels and departments within company
o Strong process building and problem-solving capabilities required
• Other Abilities:
o Must have strong competency in working with systems and applications
o Must have aptitude to quickly learn new technologies
o Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
