ABC7 (WLS-TV) Chicago is the Midwest flagship of the ABC television network. ABC7 leads the market in local news coverage with daily newscasts, and has been in a number one position in local news since March 1986. The station's offices and studios are located in The Loop in downtown Chicago.

Through its internship program, ABC7 Chicago aims to enrich and provide a practical experience for the student pursuing a career in the business of broadcasting. You will have the opportunity to observe and participate in the operation of a major-market television station, and learn the function, operation, and staffing of various departments within the station.

-''Windy City Live'' daytime talk show production (16-18 hours per week for this internship)
-Community Affairs Programming Specials production (16-18 hours per week for this internship)
-Newsroom: News Planning Team (16-18 hours per week for this internship)
-Newsroom: Sports News Team (16-18 hours per week for this internship)

Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include, among others:
-answer phones, view and log tapes, transcribe interviews.
-research news topics (including online/social media news research).
-attend production meetings.
-assist with coordinating logistics for show guests.
-edit video.
-observe reporters, producers, editors, writers, directors and technical crews.
Basic Qualifications
What you bring to the role:
-Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
-Strong proficiency with MS Office Suite including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
-Previous experience (academic or internship) in journalism (print, digital, and/or broadcast); television, news and new media production; and/or television news script writing.
-Strong familiarity with social media news outlets.
-Strong customer service skills.

-All candidates must be eligible to work in the US.
-All candidates must be at least 18 years old.
-All candidates must currently be enrolled in an accredited college or university and taking at least one class – OR – be a recent graduate of an accredited college or university within the last six (6) months - OR - be currently participating in the Disney College Program, Disney Culinary Program or Disney Professional Internship Program in order to qualify for this internship.
-All candidates must be available during the months of early June through August/early September for the Summer internship season.
-All candidates must be willing to work 16-18 hours per week, typically during a Monday through Friday schedule (days of the week you work to be determined based on the team's need and your availability).
-All candidates must have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the session.
-All candidates must provide their own housing and transportation for the duration of the internship.
Preferred Qualifications
-Junior or Senior-level standing; or attending Graduate school; or a recent graduate applying within 6 months of graduation date.
-Previous internship in a professional newsroom/local news affiliate.
-Working toward a degree in broadcast journalism, communications or television production.
-Proficiency in non-linear video editing software (Adobe Premiere, AVID and/or Final Cut Pro).
-Courses taken in producing/writing/editing (Preditor) a plus.
-Strong research, writing and editing skills.
-Prior experience generating story ideas and pitches.
-Prior experience with social media management.
-Experience with DV camera operations.
