Full Time Unpaid Internship
Job Summary:
The ABC News Special Events team handles all breaking news and planned production of major news events. Breaking news events can include everything from politics to major weather disasters, mass shootings and terrorist attacks. Planned special reports have included royal weddings, congressional hearings and presidential election and inaugurations. This internship will provide you with a unique behind-the-scenes seat to the biggest breaking news stories, the 2020 election cycle and other major events in TV news.
Responsibilities:
A day in the life…
• Daily tasks include printing and preparing copies and other editorial material needed for production.
• Assist in the logistical planning of planned special reports as needed.
• During special events programming, run copies and editorial material to executive and senior producers in the control room.
• Help in the research and planning of the 2020 election coverage, most notably assisting during production of the Democratic and Republican Convention, candidate debates and more.
Basic Qualifications:
What you bring to the role…
• Strong research skills
• Strong organizational skills
• Understanding of and interest in basic and complex political topics
• Proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs, Google Docs, etc.
• Flexible hours, including flexibility with working early mornings, late nights and weekends
Preferred Qualifications:
• Pursuing a Bachelor or Master degree preferred
• Prior journalism or newsroom experience
Additional Information:
Internship Eligibility
• Must possess unrestricted work authorization
• Must be at least 18 years old
• At the time of application, must currently be enrolled in an accredited college or university and taking at least one class – OR – be a recent graduate of an accredited college or university within the last six (6) months - OR - be currently participating in the Disney College Program, Disney Culinary Program or Disney Professional Internship Program
• Must be willing to relocate to the New York City area and provide your own housing and transportation for the duration of the internship
• Must be able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the session
• Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program
Program Dates
• Must be available from May/June to August/September
• Must be willing to work 40 hours/week
