Senior Manager - Field Operations, ABC News
Job Summary:
ABC News is looking for a Senior Manager of Field Operations based in the Washington DC Bureau. This position will oversee field operations and newsgathering equipment for ABC News platforms, breaking news and special events from Washington DC. The role will help support and manage ABC's remote sites such as the White House, Capitol Hill, Pentagon, State Department, Supreme Court and the many other sites around the nation's capital.
Candidates must understand and know how to navigate Washington DC when it comes to covering the President of the United States, federal government, federal agencies and many local law enforcement jurisdictions. Candidates must understand the US Network Pool structure and responsibilities as well as national & international travel of the President of the United States, the Vice President and VIP's. Candidates must have the knowledge on how to sustain broadcast infrastructures and build strong relationships for joint US Network projects pertaining to ABC's interests and assets.
Responsibilities:
This Senior Manager will be part of team and a go-to person for out of the ordinary show requests, big and small, planned and last minute, like building anchor remote sites and special interviews in the field. This includes crewing, transmission and navigating complex location sites under tight deadlines. The Senior Manager will oversee the DC Logistics Desk and help train producers on Digital Journalist field equipment. This position will also be a visionary, overseeing workflows in the field pertaining to new technologies.
This is an exciting opportunity and a ''hands-on'' position. Candidates must possess a wide range of knowledge and skills in newsgathering technology, have excellent communication skills, and enjoy working in a fast-paced, dynamic broadcast and digital news environment.
Basic Qualifications:
• Minimum six years' experience in television news operations
• Must have experience in breaking news events in the field
• Must have experience managing multiple projects at once
• Be willing to work outside normal business hours including evening and weekends
• Be able to work independently as well as a team member to provide high quality work to ABC
Preferred Qualifications:
• Minimum 5 years of Network level television experience, and traffic/operations coordination
• Previous management experience
• Working knowledge of DC metro area and government logistics
