Job Summary:
ABC News is seeking a Washington reporter to join our growing Digital team.
This reporter will be responsible for original reporting, including developing and maintaining Washington sources. The ideal candidate is a digitally savvy journalist who can work quickly and smartly in a highly competitive, digital-first environment to generate story ideas and pitches, and work with internal and external partners on Washington-related projects.
She or he will have a strong sense of how to approach a story holistically – weaving together feeds, their own reporting, videos, photos and social embeds to create stories that are sharp, informative and highly visual. The role is based at ABC News' bureau in Washington, D.C.
Although a key part of the role is managing text stories, the person in this role is also responsible for coordinating other key editorial elements and liaising with the wider newsgathering operation as well as broadcast units and audience development teams. She or he will handle alerting key editorial team members to breaking news.
The ideal candidate is someone who has experience handling breaking news coverage, is a self-starter and does well under pressure.
Responsibilities:
• Report and write stories, including breaking news stories, for ABC News Digital.
• Communicate well with senior editorial leaders.
• Collaborate with other reporters, producers, editors, bookers and correspondents
Basic Qualifications:
• Minimum 5 years' experience writing for a digital news outlet, with at least 3 years' experience covering politics.
• Ability to write on deadline with speed and accuracy.
• Proven experience handling breaking news.
• Experience with web publishing and AP style.
• Ability to balance priorities, multiple projects and tasks.
• Brings energy and positivity to the group dynamic.
Required Education
• BA or BS from a 4-year accredited college or university or equivalent experience.
Preferred Education
• Master's degree in journalism from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience.
