Summary:
Reporting to the Creative Director, the Designer duties include creating designs, concepts and layouts for the team's printed publications, advertisements, promotions and online features. The Designer works closely with the Marketing, Broadcasting, Corporate Sponsorships, Ballpark Enterprises, Ticket Sales, Service & Operations, Baseball Operations, Foundation and Communications departments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Layout and Graphic Design
• Conceptualize; design and layout at least 12 digest size magazines throughout the season.
• Conceptualize, design and layout at least four issues of Nationals Magazine per year and specialty programs for playoffs, Fan Fest, sponsor events, foundation, season ticket holder events, etc.
• Conceptualize, design and layout the Nationals Team Yearbook annually.
• Conceptualize and design promotional items and giveaways.
• Design, layout and build advertisements for print and online mediums, including banner ads and email graphics.
• Design and layout direct mail pieces.
• Conceptualize, design and layout items such as scorecards, media guides, calendars, tickets, banners, directional signage, outdoor, etc.
• Conceptualize and design graphics to be used on team broadcasts, scoreboard features and for in-game entertainment.
• Support ongoing ticket sales promotions and initiatives with email graphics, flyers and direct mail materials.
• Basic video editing or animation skills a big plus
Other
• Work hand-in-hand with Major League Baseball Advanced Media to coordinate and sync design elements between publications and nationals.com and email blasts.
• Help coordinate the team's photo archive.
• Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
• BA/BS in graphic arts or graphic design.
• 2 years of graphic design or graphic arts experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities necessary to perform essential functions
• Must possess a broad and practical knowledge of publications, new media and design in addition to mature and sound judgment.
• Solid experience in sports/entertainment or a related industry preferred but not required.
• Fully mastery of latest Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and other Creative Suite programs is required.
• Demonstrated success in implementing designing skills in a similarly sized and high profile organization is strongly preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
• Effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills; Ability to interact with people of all different levels and backgrounds.
• Understands need for data integrity and pays attention to maintaining accurate and timely data.
• Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment with employee.
• Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines.
• Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Access. Ability to meet deadlines under pressure and/or frequently deal with difficult issues related to people or situations.

Preferred:
• Team and/or sports experience.
• Knowledge of MLB policies and procedures.
• Demonstrated success in implementing designing skills in a similarly sized and high profile organization is strongly preferred.
• Newspaper or magazine experience.
Physical/Environmental Requirements
• Office: Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
• Gameday: Job requires employee to function in a high activity and heavily crowded outdoor professional sports venue. May work at heights. Employee will be exposed to inclement weather of varying degrees. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time, walk long distances, and climb up/down stairs. The employee is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or sit and must lift and/or move up to 45 pounds.
