Full Time Unpaid Internship
Walt Disney Animation Studios Technology Department develops software for our animated films. Software engineers work closely with production users to create tools for modeling, rigging, animation, dynamics, effects, look, lighting, and rendering while leveraging experience in graphics technology, mathematics, and research. Software engineers on the rendering team work on Disney's proprietary production renderer Hyperion, which has been used to render all of the studio's films since Big Hero 6.
Project Overview
Path guiding is a rendering technique under active research intended to efficiently sample indirect light, even within a unidirectional framework. The goal of this internship is to extend, evaluate, and implement path guiding for our proprietary renderer Hyperion. The intern will help us make path guiding practical for production rendering, answering open questions related to motion blur, high-order scattering, volumes, vast outdoor scenes, data structures, and integration into a streaming architecture. Furthermore, the intern will help us evaluate the usability of path guiding in animated-feature-film production and take steps toward an efficient production-capable implementation.
