The Creative Executive role helps shepherd the early development process for animated feature films. As such, he/she works in concert with production personnel as the day-to-day support for individual directors as they work to articulate and develop their film ideas. Duties include offering feedback on story and pitch presentations between major creative milestone meetings; conducting and coordinating inspirational research for the film world & characters; and conducting an on-going, in-depth search for writers who match the sensibility of the projects and the filmmaker-driven, collaborative culture of Disney Animation. The Creative Executive reports to the Head of Creative Affairs, and takes direction from the VP of Development in a highly team-oriented environment.
Responsibilities
• Helps directors shape stories from concept through script with an emphasis on character and film structure
• Provides creative feedback in pitches, story sessions, screenings and notes sessions
• Facilitates hiring of story consultants for projects both in development and in production
• Spearheads research initiatives, helping to integrate ongoing research into story development
• Oversees the constant search for and outreach to writers, both emerging and veteran, to match with directors by soliciting & analyzing scripts and interviewing writers
• Maintains relationships with writers, agents and industry executives, as well as in other relevant creative communities, to scout emerging & diverse writing talent
• Maintains a comprehensive and well-organized writer database covering samples, credits, script notes, meeting notes, representation, and other relevant information.
• Collaborates on the story development of various ancillary projects, such as shorts
Basic Qualifications
• Strong sense of screenplay structure and analysis
• Strong knowledge of theatre/ film productions and the entertainment industry in general is necessary, as well as a strong interest in and good understanding of the animation process
• Deep industry contacts to agents/writers and talent as well as their agents and scouts.
• The ability to effectively communicate, interact and partner with creative talent and executives inside the company is crucial
• Good taste, maturity and focus are a must
• Strong skills in the area of time management and organization
• A strong ability to learn new technologies is essential
• The ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic/ever-changing environment is required
• Three to Five years of experience in a relevant, comparable environment is required
