Full Time Job
This is a Director-level position in the Viacom Media Networks’ Business and Legal Affairs New York office to provide day-to-day business and legal affairs services for MTV, VH1, Logo, and BET Networks with a focus on original series development for unscripted and reality programming and tent-pole events. This person will handle a heavy volume of development, production and talent-related matters for both in-house and third party productions. The department works closely with the networks’ Development and Production Management teams as well as many other departments (including Programming, Talent, Publicity, Music & Media Licensing, Labor & Employment, Risk Management, Pre-Broadcast Content Review, Intellectual Property & Litigation, Marketing, Ad Sales, Accounting and Production Finance).
Basic Qualifications
• Negotiating, drafting and structuring development and production agreements (e.g., producer, writer, production services, talent agreements, venue and location releases)
• Managing a range of production-related legal matters
• Maintain and update contract option grids and communicate with development and production executives on a regular basis to keep them updated on expiration dates
• Organize documents for legal kick-off calls and coordinate distribution of production agreements to third party production companies
• Reviewing and approving legal contracts for execution by management
• Overseeing contract administration and compliance
• Drafting contract summaries and assisting with other special projects as requested by senior business and legal affairs executives
• Researching relevant legal issues
• Providing on-site coverage for tent-poles and original programming when necessary
• Performing other day-to-day business and legal affairs-related tasks as needed and as assigned by senior business and legal affairs executives
Additional Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree
• A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience at a network, studio, entertainment law firm or production company
• Working knowledge of television industry agreements, contract law and intellectual property rights, demonstrated ability to conduct legal research, analysis and reasoning
• Excellent drafting, negotiation, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, organizational and computer skills
