The ideal System Support Engineer candidate will work directly with customers and end-users in live, near-live, and post-production environments throughout the Americas and abroad. This position requires a technically and analytically skilled individual, one whose primary objective is to support customers working directly with VER provided Broadcast Systems. This individual will be responsible for supporting various workflows within the Broadcast environment. Well established interpersonal communication skills and a determined approach to resolving issues in mission-critical scenarios are key aspects of this position.
Duties and Responsibilities
Ability and willingness to travel on-site to perform the above tasks will be required for this position
Travel within the United States to both VER Offices and Customer Sites
Travel abroad if necessary to support VER equipment on international projects
Ability to train, document, support and perform engineering maintenance on broadcast production and post-production equipment, including but not limited to:
EVS Servers & Workstations (IPDirector, XFile, etc)
Avid Media Composer & Avid Products in general
Network Storage Systems (Harmonic, NAS, etc)
Adobe Creative Cloud Applications
Network Switches (Netgear, Cisco, etc)
Evertz Terminal Gear & Servers
Apple Products (MacPros, Laptops, iPads)
Ability to perform upgrades and Quality Control tasks to ensure that customer needs are met
Configuration of Servers and Workstations to meet build-requirements and ensure an intuitive yet reliable experience for users.
Service to be performed on, but not limited to: EVS Servers (XT3 & XS); EVS Workstations (XFile, IPDirector, Database, XTAccess); Post Production Workstations (Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, Avid Media Composer, Final Cut Pro)
Qualifications
Computer Operating Systems & Applications
Windows 7 & Windows Server 2008 experience and knowledge required
Windows 10, Windows Server 2012, SQL Server, Linux, Mac OS experience and knowledge are beneficial
Anti Virus updates and deployment experience is beneficial
License management and deployment experience is beneficial
Network Concepts
Understanding of and experience with both 1G and 10G media-driven network infrastructures
Ability to create a LAN and maintain it for long term projects (adding/removing devices, etc)
Understanding of sharing, user credentials, switch topology, LAN vs WAN and IP Addressing
Broadcast Production Concepts
General understanding of Timecode, Reference, HD-SDI, 3G, 4K
General understanding of Media Files and Transcoding Workflows
Ability to generate files which meet specifications for system compatibility
Experience with EVS, Avid, Adobe, Final Cut Pro, MAMs, Archive HSMs, other Media / Production related applications is required
Ability to Troubleshoot signal flow through a system and identify faults or compromised performance, including Audio, Video, Network/Data, Serial, etc
Strong understanding of Non Linear Edit Workstations and overall role in a Broadcast System
Strength in Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer and Adobe Creative Cloud are required, and candidate should be able to provide technical details on their experience with above listed and other Post Production systems
NAS, SAN, Removable Media Storage knowledge are beneficial
Ability to create customer-facing documentation about system details, supporting information and overall workflow are required of this position (MS Office, MS Visio, Adobe CC)
This position requires the ability to work collaboratively with manufacturers' support teams to troubleshoot, analyze and resolve technical issues, whether hardware or software, and ensure prompt resolution for customers on-site.
Minimum 10 Years experience with Broadcast & Production Equipment use, both Operationally and Technically
Experience in Live Production and the ability to maintain composure and professionalism in high-pressure situations is a key trait of the ideal candidate. Please provide details of this experience.
Certifications in Avid, Windows, Cisco, EVS, Sony, etc are beneficial but not required of this position.
Hands on test with specific equipment during a later stage of hiring process will be necessary to ensure skill set required is present in the applying candidates.
