Job title: Junior Project/Programme Manager
Responsible to: Innovation Manager and Senior Digital Manager
Department: Abbey Road Red
Location of work: Abbey Road Studios, London, NW8 9AY
Main Purpose of Role
As the innovation department of the world-famous studios, Abbey Road Red exists to explore the intersection of music, technology and business by supporting and collaborating with the brightest music technology entrepreneurs and researchers.
In the role of Junior Project/Programme Manager you will work closely with Abbey Road Red’s Innovation Manager and Senior Digital Manager maintaining a thorough understanding of the music & technology ecosystem as it evolves, structuring regular reports and conducting ad hoc market analysis, scouting for interesting start-ups, helping to deliver support to the companies accepted on to the Abbey Road Red incubation programme and assisting with the management of in house and collaborative technology development projects.
Key Responsibilities:
• Market monitoring: You will be responsible for monitoring the evolution of the music tech ecosystem on an ongoing basis, identifying interesting companies, people, products, events, projects, technologies and so on through online research, attending events and maintaining a strong personal network
• Reporting / research: You will be responsible for keeping thorough records of all information gathered and creating weekly reports, along with conducting ad hoc research into specific areas as and when required
• Delivering programme: You will work closely with the Innovation Manager to stay on top of the needs of companies on the Red incubation programme, setting up and overseeing mentorship sessions and workshops with executives from Universal Music and Abbey Road Studios, liaising with both the mentors and start-ups before and after sessions, attending sessions and ensuring follow up actions
• Digital project management: You will work alongside the Senior Manager, Digital and Innovation Manager to manage relationships with developers commissioned to prototype new in-house ideas, testing iterative builds and monitoring delivery against project plans
• Scouting / meeting companies: You will be responsible for handling inbound applications and enquiries for the incubator, taking initial meetings with candidate companies before setting up follow up meetings with Red team for the most promising companies
• Marketing: You will work with the Abbey Road marketing team to co-ordinate the generation and publishing of content and marketing assets related to Red’s work with start-ups on the programme
• Co-ordinating Red Events: You will assist with the curation and production of four private networking events and one showcase event per year at the studios
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will:
• have a strong understanding of the media start-up ecosystem, ideally having experience either working for a technology start-up or for an accelerator, incubator, crowdfunding platform, VC fund, technology event or other related business
• have experience working at a digital/creative agency managing the development and delivery of digital projects such as websites or apps
• have experience using a range of music software and hardware and be familiar with commonly used tools and technologies
• be an early adopter with a genuine passion for exploring cutting edge emerging technologies
• have an analytical mindset with a desire to understand the impact of technologies and new commercial models on changing markets
• be confident, professional and personable, comfortable meeting new people and building relationships on a regular basis
Desirable but non-essential:
• A knowledge and appreciation of the history of recording technologies
• An understanding of content marketing and how to maximise reach and impact on social media
• A basic level of experience editing HTML
• Experience prototyping in Max-msp, MATLAB or other language / platforms is desirable but not essential
