HR Director – CNN APAC
Senior level generalist position acting as the lead human resources consultant to a complex business division with operations in multiple locations across APAC. Works collaboratively with other senior HR business partners in the region and across all other Turner locations. Partners with key leaders within business units in the creation, development, and implementation of key business initiatives. Plans and recommends human resources strategies to build individual and organizational capability as well as coordinates the use of subject matter experts in generating solutions to client problems and requests. Manages HR operations for all CNN bureaus and CNN Digital locations across Asia Pacific.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Core Client Services (30%)
Develop and maintain close working relationships with the management & staff of CNN, Asia Pacific and CNN Digital Stay abreast of business objectives and initiatives, and all requests for HR services in support of objectives, initiatives and issues. Provide guidance to clients on HR policies and procedures interpretation, and employee relations issues, and conduct investigations in response to employee complaints and concerns to determine the best course of actions.
Working closely with HR counterparts in US, EMEA and Asia, ensure proper flow and exchange of communication among the supported business units within Turner, CNN and any other appropriate parties (for example Finance, Legal, IT in HK and Atlanta).
Review and streamline processes as well as technology to enhance clients' experience. Undertake and deliver projects as required with focus on new HR initiatives including supporting business expansion or restructuring plans regionally in partnership with all stakeholders.
Compensation & Benefits/ Performance Management (20%)
Consult key leaders within the business units to formulate, develop and execute the strategy for creating a high-performance culture. Influence and educate clients on performance management philosophy, process, tools and drive Total Rewards process. Direct and lead performance management initiatives for client groups.
Working with Compensation & Benefits specialists, provide advice on the management of remuneration for client groups, ensuring consistency and transparency, both internally and within the market.
Manage the bonus and annual salary review process with client groups, ensuring an excellence in advice; and challenging managers on decision making, enabling employees to be recognized and treated fairly.
Provide ad hoc advice where necessary to employees on benefits and remuneration. Ensure managers and colleagues in other Asia bureaus understand the company's compensation and benefits philosophy, policies and programs.
Organizational Development/Change Management/Learning & Development (20%)
Support structural change initiatives by the provision of expert HR advice on the structures required to meet the business needs and the process to be followed to manage change. Assist to develop and implement change management processes with clients to promote, build, cultivate and sustain a high-performance culture. Advise and assist key leaders to address any issues in relation to the transition of changes, the impact of changes and communication with sensitivity.
Play an active role in the Succession Planning process by ensuring up-to-date Leadership profiles for those at Manager level and above. Feed into the overall CNNI global high potential plans and ensure follow up as necessary.
Assist in identifying learning and development needs in all CNN bureaus in Asia and in delivering training workshops to address those needs in conjunction with or under the guidance of learning and development resources.
Recruitment and Selection (15%)
Work with relevant partners in U.S. on workforce planning budgets, determining departmental structures and reporting lines. Supporting managers with designing roles, responsibilities and appropriate remuneration.
Work as a business partner in determining selection of candidates, attending interviews and supporting decision making where appropriate. Provide guidance to managers on candidates to assist in ensuring that CNN has the most suitable employees in place.
Oversee the recruitment process ensuring that the processes are consistently adhered to, including the correct authorization procedure prior to recruitment.
Continuously review effectiveness of recruitment methods and agencies along with other HR Managers.
Employee Relations (15%)
Attend to any formal disciplinary or grievance situations as required, following company policy.
Ensure accurate and timely process in respect of preparation, investigation, attendance at meetings, follow up and ongoing monitoring of grievance issues.
Keep informed of and interpret employment legislation and ensure all client groups are kept up to date with amendments to relevant Employment legislation - minimizing risk to the business.
Liaise with internal and external counsel and line managers on any complex proposed/requested changes to contracts, terms and conditions, etc, balancing legislation with operational and business needs.
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of 7 to 10 years relevant regional experience as a human resources professional in a multi-national business environment of which 3-5 years should be in a management capacity.
Prior experience working with senior executives in a fast-paced, demanding and rapidly changing environment in major corporations. Possesses and applies a comprehensive knowledge of human resources, concepts, principles and practices to complete complex assignment; and the ability to provide input on the business implications of human resources decisions.
Commercially savvy and proven coaching experience.
Strong technical and hands-on human resources expertise, including staffing, compensation and benefits, employee relations, training and development, supporting and educating line managers.
Must have strong written and spoken English language communication skills.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources or related field
Master degree or MBA is highly desirable
