TIFF, a vibrant not-for-profit arts organization, is hiring for the full-time position of: Talent Development Manager
Responsibilities
• TIFF is consolidating its talent development programming under 'TIFF Talent Labs'. The Talent Development Manager will have direct responsibility for these, including:
• Organizing year-round Talent Labs for filmmakers and screenwriters, as well as industry workshops and residencies
• Managing Industry Talent Development Programming: design and execution, scouting and presenting participants, guests and script consultants, negotiating and contracting speakers and partnerships, staff hiring, guest management, budgeting and financial management
• Implementing programming fuelled by generous donations to our Share Her Journey initiative, meeting the needs of talented female screen professionals
• Maintaining and growing a database domestically and internationally, cultivating relationships that provide TIFF with opportunities for partnerships and speakers
• Overseeing the tracking of finances related to talent development programming including purchase orders, expense reports and cheque requests
• Performance management of relevant seasonal staff and consultants
• Creating one-off talent-based programming for screen creatives
• Managing the budgets associated with each program
• Writing program content for online publication
• Effectively communicating programs via social media to attract future participants and encourage conversations within the Canadian industry
• Developing a community of emerging and mid-career Canadian filmmakers, including TIFF alumni
• Contributing to activities that attract industry to TIFF Bell Lightbox
• Collaborating with Industry and cross-departmental teams on program logistics
• Identifying and managing project dependencies and critical paths
• Managing changes in project scope, identifying potential obstacles and devising contingency plans
• Conducting post mortems, including recommendations for the future
• Building business relationships vital to the success of the programs
• Developing best practices and tools for project execution and management
• Research, providing written and verbal intelligence on international talent programs
• Supervising interns and volunteers working on the projects
• Hosting guests of events
• Effectively communicating project expectations to team members, stakeholders, and participants, in a timely and clear fashion
• Liaising with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis
Human Resources:
• Training of seasonal staff
• Coaching of seasonal staff as needed
• Setting and communicating tasks, standards and expectations
• Providing direction and support when delegating tasks
• Identifying professional development opportunities
• Promoting internal and external training opportunities
• Building performance through delegation and teamwork
• Providing regular feedback through attendance at meetings
• Updating seasonal staff job descriptions as needed
• Conducting review meetings with Year-Round and Seasonal Staff
Minimum Requirements
• TIFF's Talent Development Manager has a proven track record of project management of film industry programming events and activities. A team player, they collaborate with colleagues and external partners to deliver professional development programming for the film industry. They possess strong data management, negotiation and relationship building skills. They have:
• 10 years experience in the film industry
• Proven experience in project management and staff management
• Established networks in the local and global filmmaking community
• Experience in leading large projects across departments
• Experience with devising training programs for screen creators is an advantage
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
• Strong administrative and organizational skills
• Ability to oversee multiple tasks in a fast-paced, open-concept environment
• Ability to work both independently and within a team
• Superior inter-personal skills in dealing with external partners in a professional manner
• Technically proficiency in production management programs and data research
• Adaptable to a flexible work schedule, including some evenings and weekends
