A channel manager at Theorist Inc. serves a critical role in making sure all YouTube videos for Theorist properties are posted on time and packaged for optimal searchability and discoverability on YouTube.
The channel manager will directly handle all uploads for The Game Theorists, Film Theorists, and GTLive YouTube channels, working closely with several other members of the Theorist team throughout the process. A strong work ethic, strong written communication skills, and close attention to detail are critical for this role, as well as a love of digital video platforms and their power to educate and entertain.
The channel manager will learn Theorist's approach to programming strategy as well as granular optimization techniques for YouTube in a positive, supportive team environment.
1. Channel Management:
-Video uploads and packaging for all Game Theory, Film Theory, and GTLive content.
-Titles, tags, descriptions (for which we already have guidelines in place)
-Advising and coordination on thumbnails with graphic artist team members
-Serving as the ''last eyes'' on all videos and packaging, including end-screens, icards, monetization, etc.
Channel management covers the following properties:
-Game Theorists YouTube Channel, Film Theorists YouTube Channel, GTLive YouTube Channel
-One-off special episodes or partnership management (2-3 per year)
2. Channel Analysis:
-Helping to design and support experiments on videos; working closely with other team members to execute and report on channel progress
-Regularly participating in analytics reports: At Theorist, we value data greatly. The channel manager will help pull channel data for analysis and work with other team members to learn how to read and interpret YouTube analytics data. Over time, the channel manager will gain the skills necessary to do this independently, supporting the broader team.
-Experimentation: Trying new things is great. The channel manager will support the team's efforts to try new ideas, test out hypotheses, and make changes to videos over time to try to continually improve performance. Depending on the skill level of the channel manager, this may be an independent project or done with group support.
Participate and contribute in regular team meetings
Correspond with other team members over email and occasionally with those outside of Theorist
Build Excel spreadsheets using YouTube data
Proactively identify channel scheduling or management issues
At least 1 year experience working for a YouTube studio, YouTube channel, or traditional media entertainment outlet required
Comfortable with flexible work hours and occasional weekend work
Ability to learn and adapt quickly in a dynamic work environment
Strong time management/multi-tasking and communication skills
Strong eye for detail
Must watch YouTube and be reasonably aware of current trends
Availability to live and work in the LA area strongly preferred
