Full Time Unpaid Internship

The Tampa Bay Rays Public Affairs department seeks enthusiastic, hard-working individuals with a high degree of professionalism for a full-time internship for the 2018 season to further our mission of energizing the community through the magic of Rays baseball. We seek individuals with experience/interest in various areas including but not limited to: public affairs, public relations, brand management, diversity & inclusion, business writing, social media, event planning, community service and customer service. It is important that individuals have an appreciation for Major League Baseball and the Club and a willingness to research and understand the role of a professional sports team in the local and regional markets as a valued community asset.
In fulfilling this responsibility, duties may include, but are not limited to:
• Projects and areas of focus will likely include but are not limited to the Rays 20th anniversary season, diversity initiatives, integrated marketing & brand strategy, consistent communication styling, business relationships, and other areas of the team's business operations.
• Specific responsibilities will likely include but are not limited to:
• Assist with coordination of activities around the Rays 20th anniversary celebration as needed
• Assist with planning and coordination of the Rays diversity and inclusion initiatives, including research and ideation of activations, distributing invitations and managing RSVP lists, greeting and escorting guests, scheduling video and social content capture, as well as operational needs, and post-event summary reports
• Communicate and coordinate Rays events with key partners, such as chambers of commerce, civic organizations and boards of directors
• Develop draft language for key communications
• Work collaboratively across departments throughout the organization to enhance communication and the planning of special events
• Special projects, as needed, including with other teams and departments
• Perform research projects and write reports on subject matter as assigned, primarily based around but not limited to the project areas listed above
• Willingness and eagerness to perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
• Work and perform responsibilities as assigned, which will include some weekends, nights, and holidays
• The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree or degree-seeking student
• Experience and/or coursework in two or more of the above areas
• Writing samples and/or examples of projects and activities supporting corporate, social, civil, or political organizations
• Ability to take direction, prioritize and work both independently and collaboratively
• Excellent organizational skills, with an ability to effectively multitask
• Great attention to detail
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Exceptional customer service skills
• Relevant experience in a part-time or internship role in the sports industry or related fields is preferred
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
• This is a full-time internship. Candidates will be expected to work nights, weekends and holidays when necessary.
The following are brief internship guidelines:
• The internship will run from February 5th, 2017 through October 26th, 2018.
• Intern must be available for normal office hours, and game days and events as assigned.
• Intern stipend will be based upon educational level.
• All offers contingent on a satisfactory background check
