Full Time Unpaid Internship
*Internship (Communications)
The Tampa Bay Rays Communications department is seeking an intern for the entire 2018 season (March 19 through October 5). Applicants must have excellent writing skills, preferably with a background in writing, communications or journalism. The ideal candidate is a college graduate or a local college student able to work flexible hours, which could include nights and weekends.
Media Credentials Intern
Responsibilities
include:
• Assist in the credentialing process, including approval process, production and distribution
• Represent the department at team and community events with players and coaches, as needed
• Summarize news stories and compile press clips on a daily basis
• Prepare statistical packets for media
• Copy and distribute pregame notes, lineups, press clips, statistical reports and press releases
• Assist in archiving and keywording team photography
• Collect and transcribe manager and player quotes after games
• Assist with any departmental administrative tasks, such as answering phones and fan mail
• Complete additional projects as assigned by Communications staff, such as assisting with gameday publication, Rays Yearbook and postseason publication
Baseball Information Intern
Responsibilities
include:
• Compile the daily Minor League Report
• Update statistics for Pregame Notes
• Summarize news stories and compile press clips on a daily basis
• Prepare statistical packets for media
• Copy and distribute pregame notes, lineups, press clips, statistical reports and press releases
• Assist in archiving and keywording team photography
• Collect and transcribe manager and player quotes after games
• Assist with any departmental administrative tasks, such as answering phones and fan mail
• Complete additional projects as assigned by Communications staff, such as assisting with gameday publication, Rays Yearbook and postseason publication
Requirements:
• Prior sports experience in media relations or sports information is preferred
• Highly knowledgeable in baseball statistics, terminology and rules
• Familiar with baseball statistical databases and search functions
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Detail- and deadline-oriented
• Highly motivated and well organized
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe InDesign
