Worldwide Acquisitions Development and Production Intern, Motion Picture Group – Spring 2018
Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) is a subsidiary of Sony Entertainment Inc., a subsidiary of Tokyo-based Sony Corporation. SPE's global operations encompass motion picture production, acquisition and distribution; television production, acquisition and distribution; television networks; digital content creation and distribution; operation of studio facilities; and development of new entertainment products, services and technologies.
We are the production side of the acquisitions group. We actively look for projects that we can make into movies. Many of the projects that are submitted to us are partially packaged - meaning they have a director and/or actor attached - and the budgets tend to be in the 3-5M range.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The intern will largely be responsible for reading scripts, writing coverage, and logging submissions into our database. They will have an opportunity to sit in on meetings, both internal staff meetings and project meetings with producers, etc.
For existing projects, we will ask our intern to write notes on new drafts. If we have any movies in post, they will be asked to attend screenings and offer notes. Examples of projects that interns have worked on in the past include THE MEDDLER starring Susan Sarandon, Rose Byrne, JK Simmons, and HOME SWEET HELL starring Katherine Heigl and Patrick Wilson.
Also, since we are always looking for new talent, we encourage our interns to identify up-and-coming writers and directors.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Enrollment in an accredited college/university for the duration of the internship
• Currently pursuing a degree in film with an interest in development and production
• Experience with writing script coverage
