Strategic Marketing & Research Intern - Motion Picture Group, Spring 2018
Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) is a subsidiary of Sony Entertainment Inc., a subsidiary of Tokyo-based Sony Corporation. SPE's global operations encompass motion picture production, acquisition and distribution; television production, acquisition and distribution; television networks; digital content creation and distribution; operation of studio facilities; and development of new entertainment products, services and technologies.
The Strategic Marketing & Research department aggregates and disseminates knowledge and insights which critically guide a film's domestic marketing campaign - from the beginning stages of a film's conception through the entirety of its' marketing campaign. Projects range from early positioning studies, ad testing of trailers and television spots, focus groups, research screenings that gauge a film's playability, to tracking analysis of awareness and interest. Throughout these projects this department serves as collaborator and counselor across the various marketing departments as well as the production teams.
Responsibilities:
• Intern responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
• Handle the updating of central databases that the team needs accurately updated to reference at a drop of a hat
• Assist in the compiling and distributing of tri- weekly tracking overview of territory data
• Assist in ad-hoc analytical projects that can include creating early positioning statements for upcoming releases to pulling data on the digital presence of specific stars, to analyzing trends in movie going, etc.
• Generate transcriptions of our testing materials, both trailers and TV spots, for the purposes of executive reference and review
• Be able to actively participate in brainstorm meetings and provide insights
• Proofing of reports and presentations before distribution
The intern will:
• Develop and hone their strong analytical skills
• Learn the art of communicating research findings in easy-to-digest formats
• Be exposed to screening process and its role in the development of a film
• Acquire insight into the responsibility tracking plays within the release process
• See the process of a marketing campaign from inception to execution
• Be able to how their participation and insights help in the strategy development
• Gain foundational knowledge of the functions of a studio and the filmmaking process
Qualifications:
• Enrollment in an accredited college/university for the duration of the internship is required (concentrations in Marketing, Psychology, Communication, and Film preferred)
• Knowledge and passion for film and the industry
• Experience with Excel and database management
• Strong knowledge/experience with analytics and data
• Some knowledge/experience with the production and formatting of visuals, and written reports
• Flexible and able to prioritize and re-prioritize within fluid situations
• Proven track record of meeting deadlines and working under tight time constraints
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to quickly grasp new concepts

This Spring internship is from Tuesday, January 9th or Monday, January 16th through May 4, 2018. All candidates must be able to work 10-29 hours a week with respect to their school schedule and be enrolled in an accredited degree program for the entire duration of their internship.
