Utility Cost Avoidance Facilities Intern, Corporate – Spring 2018
OVERVIEW:
Facilities Dept.
Sustainability is responsible for tracking setting and reaching SPE sustainability goals covering corporate facilities and regional offices and SPE's supply chain. Current goals include carbon reduction targets, promoting sustainable business models i.e. digital, employee empowerment at work and at home, raising awareness externally to inspire action from over 500 million people and to enable productions to achieve an environmentally friendly status. To accomplish these goals Sustainability works closely with business units, facilities, productions, employees, supply chains, and more.
Furthermore, Sustainability works side-by-side with Environmental Affairs, which manages environmental compliance and the global environmental management system (GEMS). As part of the GEMS the Sustainability Department does a wide range of activities across multiple environmental impacts (energy, water, waste), from our physical facilities to our supply chain.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Tracking and documenting utility expenses (Electrical, Gas and Water)
• Build a contract log for existing services and future services. In addition, extracting monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual commitments for service and costs in to a spread sheet.
• Review and assist with PV and energy storage options to meet our sustainability goals
• Analyze data to compare energy usage over the past 5 years, and show trends for Culver City sites and other global sites if the data is available.
• Evaluate the energy management program structure and recommend improvements based on best-in-class global corporate programs.
• Research new technology for cost savings.
• Investigate how to expand the use of BuildingOS Lucid platform for collection and tracking of additional environmental data and/ or global facilities operations.
• Research and interpret current global energy management regulations and requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Enrollment in an accredited college/university for the duration of the internship is required
• Graduate student with a focus on Energy Management resources preferred.
• This environment demands a self-starter who is organized, able to lead meetings, and has the ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative data.
• Candidates with strong analytic, communications, interpersonal, leadership and computer skills.
• Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint with proficiency. Comfort with new digital platforms that would be learned and leveraged (Building OS Lucid).
• Understanding of and background in corporate sustainability, including familiarity with greenhouse gas inventory and project savings analyses.
• Easy going and easily adaptive personality; willingness to work with and learn from others at any level of the organization.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
