Ensures that the SIM Digital Engineering Department conforms to the Company's quality procedures and that they operate effective and efficiently at all times. Provide leadership and mentoring to engineering staff, and acts a resource to all Sim's staff and clients.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
-Provide training and mentoring to technical staff company wide as required and make recommendations for technical training and certification.
-Participate in Senior Engineering Team meetings as required.
-Assign repairs in R2 to technicians as required.
-Assist in establishing documented checklist/standards/training documents for various tasks including: cleaning, basic repairs, prepping gear and service/ repair documentation. Follow up with technical staff to ensure they have a complete understanding of procedures and training as necessary.
-Participate in the new hire selection process.
-Assist in the creation and managing of the department's annual budget.
-Perform on-set technical support and system setups.
-Test, evaluate, document and make technical recommendations regarding new products and systems.
-Test, evaluate, document and approve new firmware.
-Assist in the design, building, testing, documenting and implementation of rental equipment related modifications.
-Clean, evaluate, repair and test specific models of rental equipment and systems including setup and alignment.
-Keep staff abreast of any relevant technical developments in the industry via the weekly engineering reports and Sim's monthly newsletter.
-Provide assistance and technical information to clients, potential clients and staff members when required.
-Report all damages or malfunctioning equipment to Rental coordinators and Director of Engineering and complete the required paperwork including LMD, fault reports and purchase orders.
-Effectively use R2 to track repairs, rental requirements and service schedules.
-Purchase tech room supplies and parts when required.
-Assist in keeping personal work station and tech room clean and organized.
-Perform other duties that may be assigned.
-Demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of the mission, vision, and values of Sim Digital.
-Work continually towards self-development to stay current on new technology, trends, procedures and practices.
-Ensure excellent customer service by identifying the needs and wants of clients and responding to their concerns and problems in an effective, timely manner.
-Attend staff meetings, planning sessions and training events as required.
-Participates in Tech Team which includes but is not limited to, SimLab events
-Carry a company issued cell phone and participate in the Company's on call rotation.
-Travel and work overtime when required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
-College Diploma from a recognized Audio/Video/Film Production Course or Electronics Course.
-A minimum of fifteen years' work and practical experience in the Audio/Video/Film Production Industry.
-The ability to lead, motivate and inspire others.
-Proficiency working with Microsoft Office and ability to learn and use R2.
-Competence working with PC's to install drivers and use specialized software packages.
-Ability to use, learn and implement Electronics Principles to make repairs and adjustments to production rental equipment.
-Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
-Ability to establish effective relationships with customers and co-workers.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
-Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
-Some physical effort required as everyone on the Sim team is asked from time to time to pitch in and help share the load.
