Rodale is currently seeking a project editor to manage nonfiction books, primarily in the diet, health, cooking, spirituality, sports, and fitness categories. The ideal candidate is an experienced copyeditor with hands-on book-making knowledge and the ability to juggle multiple projects at once. Exceptional multitasking and time management skills are required, as is attention to detail, adherence to deadlines, and proficiency in grammar and spelling. This position is located in New York, NY.
Responsibilities:
• Manage more than 20 nonfiction books annually from manuscript to bound book
• Assign and coordinate freelancers for copyediting, fact checking, and proofreading of manuscripts and page proofs
• Copyedit jacket and cover copy, bound galley copy, e-book files, and on-demand promotional materials
• Communicate with team members regarding all aspects of production, including schedule, manuscript, design, page count, images, and bluelines
The ideal candidate will possess:
• BA/BS from an accredited 4-year college or university
• 3 to 5 years production editorial experience in book publishing
• Copyediting and book experience
• Proficiency in electronic copyediting using Microsoft Word, including track changes, comments, and applying styles
• Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style 16th Edition and Merriam Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary 11th Edition
• Candidates will be expected to take a copyediting test
