MCM Expo Group is the UK's largest and most popular Comic Con organisation. We host the most popular Comic Con culture events and memorabilia shows. MCM events provide unique access and amazing personal experiences for consumers. We help grow every participating industry by providing direct access to passionate fans who are very active on all forms of social media.
THE POSITION
The Talent Manager role will focus on improving the quality and variety of guests from the entertainment industry, with guests from movies, television, comics, anime/manga, pop culture art and toys, and more.
The Talent Manager will serve as the main point of contact for recruiting and contracting celebrity and other entertainment guests for all MCM Comic Con events. These guests will primarily be attached to our autograph area, but could also be guests for the comic programming as well. The person in this position will be key in driving collaboration with our content team on panels and content relating to these events around contracted talent. This includes responsibility for every aspect of this area, managing the event team, creating and adhering to budgets, communicating regularly with the content and operations teams, and successfully staging the event to the delight of our fans.
Working collaboratively with the ReedPOP Global Talent Manager, the MCM Talent Manager will help recommend and sometimes secure talent for the portfolio of ReedPOP global shows.
BRING YOUR PASSION AND EXPERTISE
• Responsible for running all MCM Comic Con Celebrity/Guest programs
• Responsible for supporting international ReedPOP Celebrity/Guest Programs when needed
• Responsible for pre and post-show follow ups with Celebrity and guest agents
• Manage MCM's part-time Talent Scheduler
• Develop and execute the layout for on-site autographing areas to include green rooms, amenities and catering functions etc.
• Develop any talent-specific ticketing plans onsite
• Review, develop and implement specialty ticketing programs and a pre-sale autograph and photograph program
• Work in conjunction with the Event Director to develop a budget for our events that outlines the Celebrity/Guest program
• Negotiate contracts, collect assets and manage relationships with agents
• Collaborate with the content team on names of guests, panels and overall content relating to shows
• Develop overall guest plan to present to the content teams and event managers
• Coordinate all staffing needs for the autographing area for all MCM Comic Con events
• Ensure that the ReedPOP Cultural Manifesto is taught and upheld as the team grows
• Develop the tools, tactics, and processes to share and scale ReedPOP's best practices
• Focus on creativity and innovation by constantly looking for new event concepts for development in domestic and international markets
• Will require regular travel possibly some international
THE REQUIREMENTS
• Education: BA/BSc degree or equivalent business training or experience preferred
• Experience: Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in the event space, pop culture affinity or background preferred.
o Event programming experience – panels, general sessions
o Experience working with venues - theaters, concert halls, convention halls
o Experience working with talent - agents, managers, and executing riders
o Previous experience working with high level executives
o Previous experience managing a team
o Previous budget responsibility
• Strong organisational skills, able to think big picture and execute, comfort level being self-starting and dealing with ambiguity, willing to get your hands dirty and contribute daily, strong relationship building skills, cultural sensitivity, budget management experience
• Excellent writing skills – contracts, invite letters. Legal contract experience in the U.K. not required, but preferred.
• Excellent verbal skills - interviews, pitching clients, and developing relationships.
• Multi-tasking - You must manage domestic teams, event partners, and global offices simultaneously
• Ability to work well in a group as well as individually
• Ability to remain connected with all teams and partners during long periods of travel
• Flexibility with fast-paced, unpredictable deadlines, schedules, and priorities
• Professional level knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Sense of humour and spirit of fun!
