Reporting to the President of the Pac-12 Networks and serving as an integral member of the senior management team, the Executive Vice President, Content is responsible for oversight and management of digital and linear Production, remote and studio Production Operations, on-air Talent & Development, and Programming departments. This position will be based at the Pac-12 Networks headquarters in San Francisco. Pac-12 Networks produces 850 live sports events from more than 100 venues across 12 universities, spanning 6 states.
The EVP, Content's fiscal responsibilities include overseeing the production costs associated with the management and production of Pac-12's seven TV networks and related businesses. The EVP, Content will oversee the long-range planning and programming of the Network's digital and linear productions, ensuring we are delivering the highest quality while incorporating innovation, efficiencies, and collaboration between the Networks, the Conference, and our university partners.
Key areas reporting to the EVP, Content include:
• Linear Production, University Production, Digital Production, Social Media Management, Remote & Studio Post Production, Production Operations, on-air Talent & Development, and Programming.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work closely with the president of Pac-12 Networks to maintain sound business practices, excellent communications, implement new policies, participate in strategic and long-range planning and foster a progressive and inclusive culture.
• Manage the heads of Production, Production Operations, and Programming, by providing leadership, transparency, strategic guidance and implementing best practices.
• Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach: assign accountabilities; set objectives; establish priorities; monitor and evaluate results.
• Plan and manage budgets, optimize expenses annually, and look for creative solutions to increase efficiencies for those departments reporting into Content.
• Work closely with the Pac-12 Conference, the Networks' Engineering & Technology department and VP, University Relations to ensure remote venues at all 12 universities are TV-ready and the remote production operations run smoothly
• Work closely with the VP's of Engineering and Digital Products to ensure a coordinated effort in growing our media company.
• Work with Pac-12's legal counsel on labor relations to ensure we are in compliance across our 6-state footprint in the Production business, including meeting with union leaders and representatives, to help maintain consistent communications.
• Integrate and collaborate with the Networks' Human Resources and Finance departments to help develop best practices and create efficient, accountable, sustainable workflow and processes across departments that affect content.
• Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
• Oversee the negotiations and management of contracts with production personnel, talent, technical facility providers and any vendor associated with content
• Oversee the Programming department and assist with creating efficiencies and fostering excellent communications and planning.
• Present annual budget, business plans, and strategic plan to Networks senior staff.
• Represent Pac-12 Networks at conferences, on panels, and at our 12 universities, as needed.
• Teach staff and Pac-12 university students best practices in content.
• Engage in high-level negotiations to build beneficial relationships with vendors.
• Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Executive with a diverse skill set who has proven success in roles of increasing responsibility with at least 15 years relevant experience in production, programming and content strategy roles
• Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university
• Demonstrated record of strong leadership and general management:
• Direct, motivate, engage and mobilize the team in pursuit of the organization's mission; provide effective leadership across a diverse workforce and in a creative culture
• Supervise senior executives and the ability to resolve important issues with crisp closure and execution.
• A deep understanding of collegiate content and a strong familiarity with national and regional sports network operation.
• Ability to conceptualize and implement innovative and effective programs in order to reach objectives.
• Superb verbal, written, and interpersonal skills and outstanding presentation skills; be equally effective in formal and informal settings. Communicates consistently and effectively with staff as a leader responsible for managing a team within a collaborative organization.
