Full Time Unpaid Internship
The programs and partnerships intern supports a variety of NPR Music’s programs and initiatives. We’re looking for someone with strong copy editing and audio production skills, a good ear for music and the ability and work independently to support station collaborations and programs including Jazz Night in America, Slingshot and Noteworthy.
This is a full-time, 40-hour internship in the Washington, D.C. office.
Responsibilities:
- Web production for member station programming, Jazz Night in America, Slingshot, Noteworthy and other content as needed
- Organize data and contacts, manage Google Docs and Excel spreadsheets
- Transcribe, fact check and edit interviews; rewrite copy that falls below our editorial standards; craft compelling headlines and promotional language
- Communicate with social media managers and producers at member stations
- Contact labels for permissions, fact checking and other research as needed
- Edit and mix high-quality audio productions
- Manage multiple projects on deadline
- Participate in music team meetings and other events
Qualifications:
- Strong editing and writing skills
- Knowledge of contemporary music across genre
- Passion for storytelling; an interest in the how and why behind stories in the music industry
- Working knowledge of HTML and basic web editing
- Working knowledge of Photoshop and basic photo editing
- Working knowledge of ProTools, Audition, or other audio editing software
- Ability to work independently
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in music-related field; music journalism or production experience
- Experience with a content management system
- Experience writing for the web
- Experience editing to AP style standards
