Westside independent production and international distribution company is looking for a qualified business affairs paralegal. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, great organizational skills and the ability juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment in order to meet critical deadlines. As this position will deal with senior executives inside and outside the company, a high level of integrity and professionalism is essential. Additionally, the individual must be proficient in Outlook and Excel and have the ability to partner successfully with the entire team. The ideal candidate will have 4 years' experience in a similar role.
Essential Functions
• Complete New Product Procedures
• Enter new acquisitions and productions in Rightsline data base system.
• Copyright filings as needed. Copyright infringement notifications and follow up. Company compliance/formation/cancellation as needed. Maintain copyright mortgage chart.
• Complete SAG Documents for ''core'' productions.
• Create Chain-of Title for ''core'' productions.
• Maintain MarVista corporate chart - update with explanation of what project each LLC is tied to, ensure electronic versions of all corporate documents are in electronic files, including operating agreements, amendments, etc.
• Assist BA Coordinator in the delivery process of productions and acquisitions.
• Rights Management - Send reminders/updates for expiring programs and follow up on extensions. Maintain Option Chart and calendaring of expiration dates, send reminders to development executives and facilitate payments if applicable
• Participations Chart - Maintain a chart of individuals/companies entitled to participations and sales bonuses per project.
• Compact chart - Update chart with all acquisitions in the current year. Send monthly updates.
• Residuals Obligation Chart - Update Residuals Obligation chart with each new title. Set up titles for residuals reporting with an appropriate payroll house & research residuals payments to old titles to answer residuals demands.
• Scan and electronically file documents. File hard copies, as applicable.
• Other projects as warranted.
• Notary Public or be willing to become Notary Public
Basic Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in a related field
• Minimum 3-5 years of prior paralegal experience within the Entertainment industry
• Experience in understanding film production and development
• Understanding and experience in dealing with industry unions
• Skilled with PCs and MS Office. Previous experience with Rightsline preferred.
• Demonstrates professionalism, discretion, and good judgment in all interactions with co-workers and industry professionals.
