Job Description
MWM is a diversified media and entertainment company delivering elevated entertainment experiences to consumers worldwide. The company produces and distributes premium content, including film, television, VR/AR (immersive media), live events and digital video. MWM was founded by Gigi Pritzker in partnership with Clint Kisker in 2015 and was named one of Fast Company's Top Ten Most Innovative Companies in Hollywood for 2017.
The company consists of three operating divisions: MWM Studios (formerly OddLot Entertainment), MWM Live (formerly Relevant Theatricals) and MWM Immersive (formerly Reality One). These divisions have produced successful elevated content across various media, including the Academy Award-nominated film Hell or High Water, the Ron Howard-directed TV drama Genius, the Tony-winning musical Million Dollar Quartet and the Jon Favreau-created VR experience Gnomes & Goblins. Additionally, MWM makes a select number of strategic investments into companies within the entertainment and media space. The current portfolio includes STX Entertainment, Atom Tickets, Fandor, Wevr and The Void.
We currently have an opening for SVP of Finance & Accounting to play a critical role in all aspects of MWM's corporate financial management, reporting and compliance. Our ideal candidate is a highly-engaged and diligent executive with a minimum of 7 years' experience as a finance professional within the entertainment industry. We are particularly interested in individuals who have strong understanding of premium content production businesses and familiarity multi-divisional corporate structures.
Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manage preparation of quarterly and year-end financial statements, financial analyses and any other ad hoc reports requested by executive management
• Manage all month-end closing activities including general ledger maintenance, balance sheet reconciliations and corporate/overhead cost allocation
• Manage preparation and delivery of all credit facility compliance
• Manage FP&A function with input from division operating executives and the Strategic Planning Group
• Ensure proper maintenance of all accounting systems and functions including implementation of efficient and scalable accounting processes, tools and control systems
• Manage preparation and support of all external audits and serve as a key point of contact for external auditors
• Support senior management in determining appropriate accounting treatment for management reporting and GAAP financial statements in conjunction with outside accounting firms
• Manage all production-related finance matters including establishing and maintaining financing structures and collection accounts, overseeing production cash flow, supervising soft money monetization and working with management and physical production to address production-related finance issues
• Coordinate preparation of annual tax returns by providing prepared by client schedules to tax auditors. Review of tax return for accuracy for home office
• Oversee preparation of participations statements and residuals reporting
• Supervise AR management and provide support to collections activities
• Facilitate cash management and capital calls to ensure cash levels are monitored properly
PRINCIPAL WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Direct Supervisor: MWM CFO (initially will report to MWM President)
Direct Report: Director of Accounting
Indirect Report: Analyst, Finance & Accounting
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, experience, and skill-set:
• Minimum of 7 years' experience as a finance professional within a mid to large entertainment company, preferably with direct experience in film and television production
• In depth understanding of ASC 926 as it applies to TV and film industry accounting and financial practice, including film amortization, development write-offs, ultimates, and production cost accounting
• Experience in financial reporting and/or operational accounting; including overseeing Chart of Account set up, AP & AR processing, Treasury and Cash flow processes and financial statement preparation
• Experience consolidating multiple entities and intercompany eliminations
• CPA and/or MBA is strongly preferred
• Experience working with information technology staff to manage finance and accounting systems
• Knowledge and experience dealing with talent contracts, contingent compensation definitions and union/guild agreements
• Demonstrated team management and interpersonal skills
• Ability to multitask and work under strict deadlines in a small team environment
• Comfort working in an entrepreneurial environment
