Full Time Job
The Los Angeles Sparks are currently recruiting for a Public Relations and Communications Director. This position is full-time, salaried and is eligible for our complete benefits package.
Position Summary: The PR and Communications Director will help shape the franchise's outward facing brand from. If you're an experienced public relations/communications professional who also has an unconventional and proactive side, we want to hear from you! This role will be responsible for creating, planning and executing various year-round communications plans for key external audiences which effectively position the Los Angeles Sparks. The position will work with local press including digital, print, broadcast and other non-traditional outlets to generate stories pre, during and post season. This position will assist the marketing department in a variety of tasks including, copywriting, collateral production, visual communications and eCommunications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Planning and executing year-round communication strategies to build brand & sales?
• Develop potential media stories, write press releases as assigned and effectively pitch for maximum pick-up; act as primary interface with media?
• Manage and coordinate player, coach and management appearances and interviews?
• Plan and execute special events for target audiences and to generate press coverage?
• Support and contribute to the development of eCommunication strategies including websites, eNewsletters and interactive communications?
• Provide marketing support and account services to other internal departments?
• Develop, write, and edit corporate communications as assigned?
• Manage reputation management, crisis communications, and day-to-day activities
• Maintain and nurture relationships with local, national and international press
• Oversee media operations on game day and LA Sparks events: press box operations and check-in, game notes, match recaps, etc.
• Foster relationships with other departments to stay informed of new initiatives.
• Manage the broadcast/communications/public Broadcast & Communicates staff, seasonal staff, outside consultants, and interns
• Track department expenditures and manage Communications budget with Finance Department
• Maintain accurate database of media contacts and track earned media coverage
• Other duties as assigned
Required Skills
/Qualifications:
• Bachelors Degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism or related field?
• 3 - 5 years experience in marketing and communications field?
• Excellent written and communication skills as well as proofreading & editing skills?
• Strong interpersonal skills & team player?
• Ability to maintain confidential and/or proprietary information
• Demonstrated initiative, the ability to work independently and be a self starter?
• Demonstrated leadership abilities and organizational skills?
• Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects within deadlines & budget is critical -
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products?
• Knowledge of WNBA & women's basketball is preferred?
• Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays
• Familiarity with current patterns and trends in digital and social media.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make quick decisions using sound judgment.
• Extensive media contacts and demonstrated ability to place stories.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of media and community contacts (such as newspapers, TV, radio, social media, etc.).
• Ability to speak in public forums.
• Exceptional project management skills with ability to manage people/projects, delegate responsibility and provide follow-through on multiple projects.
