How do I hire an Executive Producer, Digital? Job title: Executive producer, digital
Department: News
Reports to: Assistant news director, digital
Duties and responsibilities: KTLA's executive producer, digital (EPD) is a champion for digital-first thinking and an authoritative voice for ethical, responsible, thorough, accurate and high-quality journalism at KTLA. She or he is responsible - across all digital platforms - for ensuring KTLA's brand is represented consistently and that station editorial standards are maintained.
The EPD oversees day-to-day editorial decisions related to digital content and the integration of broadcast content into station digital properties. This is accomplished in part through the hiring, training and supervision of a team of digital producers who create content for KTLA's website, mobile, app and social media platforms. He or she will be a leader and defender of the digital team, able to train digital producers and successfully implement changing strategies for success.
He or she will foster a creative, positive and productive work environment and create development opportunities and individualized goals for digital producers and interns.
The EPD will help the station respond to changes in the industry and social media. She or he will identify improvements in workflow and communication. The EPD will advocate for strong news coverage and act as a role model in commitment to journalistic integrity.
The EPD must have excellent news judgment and should have experience reporting in California. He or she will be or must quickly become highly knowledgeable about Southern Californians' news priorities and specifically KTLA viewers' interests.
She or he must also be able to edit, report and write accurately, clearly and quickly. The EPD will be a master of spelling, punctuation, grammar and AP Style, and will be able to train producers in those areas. Ideally, he or she should have experience in a local television newsroom.
The EPD also must have a good sense of what stories will be successful on social media, and will be able to assign and prioritize that content as needed. She or he must have a good eye for visual storytelling.
Requirements: A bachelor's degree, preferably in journalism or communication, and at least seven years of relevant work experience in journalism are a must. At least one year of management experience, preferably leading a digital team, and at least four years of experience working with digital platforms, including social media, are required. The ideal candidate will have a familiarity with online and social media metrics and analytics, strong leadership and communication skills, and a passion for journalism excellence and the will to compete and win.
KTLA will consider qualified applicants with criminal histories in a manner consistent with the Los Angeles Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring.
