Head of Communications and Publicity
JASH is searching for a Head of Communications / Director of Publicity who will oversee the overall business communications strategy with trade and business publications as well as lead on publicity strategy and execution for key video, television, and brand-driven programming projects. This person understands how to craft strong market positioning, language and brand building media coverage that elevates JASH amongst its peers in the industry, potential investors and hires, or business partners. The perfect candidate would also have worked on publicity campaigns for studio and television/digital network projects to drive consumer awareness of a series / film / video project and tune-in. An understanding of working with celebrities and social media stars, as well as their agents, managers, publicists to coordinate publicity campaigns around projects also a requisite. Similarly, the candidate would apply that understanding to working with brands' or creative agencies' internal PR / marketing teams to coordinate publicity or trade stories around branded entertainment projects produced by JASH.
The right candidate is able to use discretion on how to leverage the executive team as well as the celebrity founders of JASH in achieving the above goals.
A passion for comedy, comedic talent, the history of comedy, and entertainment a plus. Knowledge of digital entertainment, OTT, streaming video, online video, also a plus.
Experience:
5+ years of experience
In-house or in-agency experience both relevant
Experience working on corporate brands and consumer-driven campaigns a must
B2B and B2C comprehension
NOTE: While this is not a management role to start, management experience is a must, as JASH plans to expand.
Must have established media relationships in entertainment, media, and with consumer media
Established relationships with TV and Radio a plus but not a requirement
WISHLIST: someone who has worked at or with Hulu, Netflix, Warner Brothers, Machinima, Maker Studios, Fullscreen, etc.
Qualities of the ideal candidate:
Has a sense of humor and an appreciation for comedy and entertainment (not essential but a plus)
Strategic thinker and problem solver
Proactive -- both in story development
Comfortable in a startup environment (ie. can be agile and quick hitting) but buttoned up like a major media company exec
Attention to detail
Creative thinker
Good communicator and conflict resolver
Organized and good at project management
Self-starter / self-motivator with an entrepreneurial spirit
Takes pride in their work and has a loyal track record to companies he/she has worked for
Role would include:
Driving regular team and departmental meetings to sync high level activities happening in JASH
Draft and maintain annual, quarterly and monthly communications strategies and story pipeline
Project manage publicity on various series and branded entertainment campaigns
Work with brands, partners, talent, and creatives/comedians to find appropriate PR ops
Maintain strong and relevant media relations on behalf of the executives and team
Field in-bound stories and serve as spokesperson as necessary
Secure consistent and strategy-appropriate media placements for JASH.
As needed, oversee work with an outside PR agency or consultant to support bigger publicity initiatives.
Coordinate regular and relevant thought leadership and commentary ops for JASH executives and founding team
Coordinate inclusion in relevant industry trend and feature stories in magazines, newspapers and trade publications
Salary: Competitive, but commensurate with experience
