Summary
Under direction of the Director of Finishing, the Online Editor will coordinate with the Finishing Team as well as Production and Graphics to ensure that all in-house finishes are properly and efficiently prepped to color, VFX, color graded, conformed, approved, exported to spec, and delivered.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
• Prep sequences from Avid to DaVinci for color
• Color Correct in DaVinci / Avid Media Composer 8, address notes and get approvals
• Coordinate with the VFX team to make sure the color / VFX workflow is efficient and completed
• Full conform, upres & overcut for online spots finishing in-house in Avid. This includes but is not limited to correcting the color space, frame rate, aspect ratio, and timewarps
• Import and cut in mix approvals, present and get notes and relay to mixer
• Import and cut in final graphics, spell check, check action / title safety, alert graphics of any issues
• Present final conform and audio mix to Producers / Editors / Clients and address any notes given
• Final exports to specifications and quality control. Final delivery to correct recipients
• Ability to tag out spots by cutting in the correct voice over and graphics tags and making sure they all match and make grammatical sense
• Assist in troubleshooting of any technical issues
• Complete picture preps for offline spots and trailers. This includes but is not limited to: 2 pop, check length, overcut, collapse and deconstruct picture, add source name and TC burn-in to all clean shots, check against safety, address any issues found, answer any questions from online editor, export QT, output Avid Bin and EDLs and export Video AAF
• Complete audio preps for offline spots and trailers. This includes but is not limited to: audio overcut, cut in final voice over, organizing, correcting pan / volume issues, mixing down plug-ins, sourcing mixdowns, addressing any issues found, answering mixer's questions, changes only, and exporting audio AAFs
• Accurately relay any info needed for picture and audio sources, graphics, voice over used in spot or trailer via emails and lists
• Create full Shot, VFX & Dialogue / off-camera dialogue string outs in Avid and lists with Microsoft Excel
• Layoff and quality control final tapes such as: D5, HDCam, HDCamSR, DVCPro, DigiBeta
• Organization and cleanliness of the Finishing Avid projects, Avid stations, and hard drives
• Overlap with co-workers on all completed and in progress tasks each day
• Train new additions to the department in all functions and responsibilities
Qualifications & Skills
• Minimum 6 months experience in professional DaVinci color correction
• Minimum 1 year experience in Avid Media Composer 8 including color correction and advanced Video effects knowledge
• Bachelor's degree with 2-3 years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
• Clear communication and leadership skills
• Experience with the DaVinci and Avid / ISIS Client Manager work flow
• A clear understanding of color theory and schematic of color as it pertains to advertising and marketing.
• An ability to perform quality control before final delivery.
• Understanding of frame rates (23.98p, 24p, 25p, 29.97p, 29.97i, 50i, 59.94p), timecode (drop frame, non drop frame), aspect ratios (1.33, 1.78, 1.85, 2.39), resolutions (720x486, 1280x720, 1920x1080, 2K, 4K), Video scanning (interlaced vs progressive), and color spaces (rec709 16-235, RGB 0-255)
• Basic understanding of audio bit depth (16bit, 24bit), sample rate (44.1kHz, 48kHz), codecs (AAC, Linear PCM), common track layouts (stereo, 5.1, split), and audio formats (WAV, AIF, mp3, m4a)
• Knowledge of digital video codecs including DNxHD, ProRes 422 HQ, ProRes 4444, h264, Photo JPEG and bit rates (ex: 6Mbit/s vs 100Mbit/s)
• Ability to work in a variety of color spaces and camera formats
• Experience with video conversion tools (Quicktime Pro, MPEG Streamclip, Content Agent) and basic understanding of the .mov and .mp4 wrappers
• Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel as well as FTP Clients (Cyberduck, Transmit)
• Ability to work under high pressure situations with quick turn arounds and take instructions both verbally and in writing
• Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
• Attention to detail and consistency
• Understanding of editing concepts
