Full Time Job
The Senior Editor for the ESPN5 partnership is an experienced digital media editor who manages content and helps set the editorial strategy and vision for ESPN's digital presence in the Philippines, in conjunction with TV5. The Senior Editor will work closely with the ESPN's editorial team to provide oversight over the ESPN5 site/app and also work directly to ensure all content meets established ESPN journalistic standards and guidelines. The role also could help coordinate other ESPN digital coverage in additional markets in Southeast Asia.
The editor will be expected to display outstanding news judgment, skilled storytelling ability, thorough knowledge of digital practices (including SEO, social platforms and content sharing), and a strong knowledge of journalistic principals and methods. The Senior Editor will also work closely with ESPN's digital group and studio production team in Bristol, CT, to produce original stories, audio and video content for the Philippines audience, primarily centered on NBA basketball, Philippines (PBA) basketball, FIBA tournaments and other Philippines sporting events.
The Senior Editor will help drive the creation of original content focused on storylines of interest to the audience in the Philippines. The editor also will work closely with ESPN's U.S.-based editorial teams to plan and coordinate content, and will also then manage and coordinate the programming of the content with the team from TV5.
The editor will be skilled in producing content that resonates on multiple digital platforms, including the Web, app and mobile phone.
Responsibilities
This position requires regular, daily communication with teams across multiple continents and time zones. Strong organizational and managerial skills, and overall editorial vision, are all a must.
The Senior Editor will help manage:
• The year-round publication and development of written, photo, audio and video content (both originally produced and migrated from ESPN's international sites) for ESPN in the Philippines.
• Working to plan the right daily mix of content that will resonate with users in the Philippines market.
• Coordinating coverage of breaking news to ensure timeliness and accuracy, understanding reporting protocol and news judgment.
• Meeting and exceeding traffic goals for the ESPN5 site.
• Regularly communication with ESPN's editorial team and TV5's management group.
• Lending insights and partnering with ESPN's other editions around the globe.
• Coordination and oversight of content around key sports that intersect the Philippines, especially basketball.
The Senior Editor is expected to have exceptional writing, reporting and editing skills. Additionally, the editor will assign original content and enhance existing material to contribute toward building an audience in the Philippines. The editor also will work to coordinate comprehensive coverage and breaking news with immediacy and accuracy.
The Senior Editor will be a technically savvy consumer of digital media who has a strong knowledge of the Philippines market. The editor will have an extensive knowledge of sports such as basketball, volleyball, soccer, boxing, golf, tennis, auto racing and major global sports
Basic Qualifications
• Fluency in web authoring tools, SEO and software: CMS, Photoshop, basic HTML, FTP clients, basic video editing, photo editing, Mac and PC operating systems. Fluency in electronic newsgathering techniques, including quickly navigating the Internet.
• Digital journalism experience and strong news judgment; understands assigned sports from a journalistic point of view, and for the Philippines audience. Understands and protects the ESPN brand in the region.
• Experience managing writers and editors.
• Excellent organizational skills, plus news reporting, writing and editing skills.
• Experience managing budgets and working to monetize content through work with business partners, including advertising and marketing.
• Must be willing to travel, both domestically and internationally.
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelors degree or higher preferred in Journalism, Communications or a related field.
• Typically five-plus years of editorial and managerial experience.
• Experience managing a digital news operation and editorial team.
Required Education
• Bachelor's Degree in related field.
