Post Production Supervisor (Night)
Summary
Under general supervision of the Director of Finishing, the Night Post Production Supervisor (or Finishing Supervisor) oversees the Finishing Coordinator, Lead Finishing Assistant Editor, and the Finishing Assistant Editors. The Supervisor is responsible for running the department when the Director of Finishing is not present, ensuring that all finish request are taken care of in a timely and efficient manner. The Supervisor works closely with Producers, the Graphics department, Clients, and Vendors to ensure a smooth finishing process.
The standing shift for this Night Post Production Supervisor ends at midnight.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
• Coordinate with studio contacts and vendors to supply locked spots / trailers to finishing facility and update progress of finishing
• Work closely with Music, Graphics, Editors, and Producers to ensure open and efficient communication
• Answer all questions that arise throughout the Finishing process and troubleshoot any issues
• Make sure all WOs, Trellos and Finishing emails are completed and correct for each spot worked on
• Oversee the completion of all in-house finishes including final QC and delivery
• Communicate with AEs and make sure they have all the info necessary to properly complete their preps and onlines
• In collaboration with the Lead Finishing Assistant Editor, make sure all servers and delivery systems (Wiredrive, MediaSilo, FTP) are organized and clean
• Cover for the Director of Finishing / Finishing Coordinator when they are out
Qualifications & Skills
• 1 year trailer finishing experience minimum
• Management experience
• Clear communication and leadership skills
• Experience with Avid Media Composer 8 and a familiarity with the basic video effects and audio plug-ins.
• Experience with the Avid / ISIS Client Manager work flow
• Understanding of frame rates (23.98p, 24p, 25p, 29.97p, 29.97i, 50i, 59.94p), timecode (drop frame, non drop frame), aspect ratios (1.33, 1.78, 1.85, 2.39), resolutions (720x486, 1280x720, 1920x1080, 2K, 4K), Video scanning (interlaced vs progressive), and color spaces (rec709 16-235, RGB 0-255)
• Basic understanding of audio bit depth (16bit, 24bit), sample rate (44.1kHz, 48kHz), codecs (AAC, Linear PCM), common track layouts (stereo, 5.1, split), and audio formats (WAV, AIF, mp3, m4a)
• Knowledge of digital video codecs including DNxHD, ProRes 422 HQ, ProRes 4444, h264, Photo JPEG and bit rates (ex: 6Mbit/s vs 100Mbit/s)
• Experience with video conversion tools (Quicktime Pro, MPEG Streamclip, Content Agent) and basic understanding of the .mov and .mp4 wrappers
• Ability to troubleshoot potential QT, WAV or other digital media issues or problems
• Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel as well as FTP Clients (Cyberduck, Transmit)
• Ability to work under high pressure situations with quick turn arounds and take instructions both verbally and in writing
• Efficient time management and prioritizing among several simultaneous project deliveries
• Attention to detail and consistency
• Understanding of basic editing concepts
• Able to organize work effectively in order to meet deadlines
• Conduct all matters in a professional and courteous manner
