Reporting to the Technical Director and working under the supervision of the Head Carpenter, you will be required to:
Functions:
• Assist the Head Carpenter in solving problems and resolving conflict;
• Supervise Carpentry department operations and coordinate stage activities in the absence of the Head Carpenter;
• Inspect and maintain equipment, stage, and backstage areas; update maintenance and inspection records as directed; work with the Head Carpenter to develop systems and procedures;
• Develop a thorough knowledge of all backstage equipment specific to the production in order to operate equipment safely;
• Follow and support the equipment and inventory management procedures and requirements as required by Cirque du Soleil. Utilize the tools and procedures provided by International Headquarters (IHQ) to maintain inventory and equipment data. Follow the requirements detailed for customs and logistics with regards to the transport of material with touring productions;
• Perform other tasks and projects assigned.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
• College diploma (or equivalent) in live entertainment, theatre production, sound technology or electronics (or equivalent work experience);
• A minimum of five years' experience as touring stage carpenter;
• Good general understanding of all technical aspects of a show an asset;
• Flexibility, autonomy, team player;
• Good communication skills;
• Ability to handle contingencies and work well under pressure;
• Knowledge of Microsoft software for Windows and Autodesk products;
• Fluency in spoken and written English, essential; fluency in French, an asset;
• Availability to tour full time and to work in foreign countries.
