Senior Legal Counsel, EMEA - Maternity Cover
Responsibilities The Senior Legal Counsel, EMEA role manages business and legal affairs for all aspects of CNBC Europe, Middle East and Africa. This is a high-profile role which demands a high level of confidence and skill in balancing the commercial needs of the business whilst protecting CNBC's legal interests. You will be working for a leading media brand, liaising with senior stakeholders and managing a small team. The role attends the CNBC International leadership team meetings and is an active participant in driving the overall success of the business. Qualifications/Requirements Commercial Matters:
Negotiation, documentation and/or contractual review relating to all activities of the business, including channel distribution agreements, integrated advertising and events contracts, services agreements, licensing agreements and various operational agreements. . The ability to prioritise efficiently, and communicate regularly and appropriately with other departments is essential.
Business Development:
Support the Business Development team with renewals of existing partnerships and joint ventures, and assist in the drafting and negotiation of new partnerships and content syndication deals across the EMEA region.
Editorial:
A keen understanding of the requirements of the Ofcom codes in relation to programming, advertising and sponsorship, particularly as they relate to the editorial independence of news channels. Promptly and accurately answer questions that are raised by the editorial teams for instance around ''fair dealing'' and other copyright related issues. Be the primary contact for the EMEA Editorial team so the ability to think quickly and manage these relationships is paramount.
Leadership and Management:
Leadership and line management responsibility for one junior lawyer and one compliance officer. The role is responsible for managing and developing this talent to maximise their impact on the CNBC business.
Compliance:
Ensure compliance with laws and regulatory requirements in Europe (Ofcom), implement internal policies, and provide assistance and training to facilitate compliance with such laws, regulations and policies. Leading the Intermediary Management System (IMS) compliance process to minimise compliance risks to the CNBC business.
Intellectual property:
Advise on fair dealing and copyright law issues. Safeguard the business' IP rights and brands (including trademarks).
General Advice:
Provide sound and practical legal and commercial counsel to business teams as required.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
• Approximately 10 years PQE, preferably with experience at a top international law firm in Europe, a or US and an in- house role at an international broadcaster/media company
• First class drafting skills required
• Compliance and regulatory experience (Ofcom) strongly preferred.

• Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
