Lead Compositor (Blue Sky Studios)
The Lead Compositor partners with the Lighting Supervisor and other Leads of the department to lead teams of lighters and compositors in the completion of production sequences and projects. The Lead Compositor is expected to composite shots of a more notably difficult or complex level to director approval. The Lead Compositor assists, mentors and guides other members of the team as well as serves as a liason in interdepartmental meetings. The Lead Compositor assists in the planning of look development and may recommend what techniques are used.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Lead sequences with higher complexity for the consistent overall look of the sequence.
- Work collaboratively Lighting Leads to develop sequence specific techniques to achieve the aesthetic goal of the sequence.
- Develop and implement compositing solutions for sequence specific challenges.
- Distribute the developed techniques and skillset to the sequence compositing Tds.
- Perform all tasks associated with the compositing process, including 2D tracking, matte extraction, layering of elements, color grading, 3D projections and roto/paint work.
- May be asked to light shots from time to time.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated expertise in creative compositing using Studio's preferred software, Nuke.
- Demonstrated strong understanding in lighting pipeline.
- Experience in
3D Matte painting strongly preferred.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent degree in Fine Arts, Computer Science, Computer Visualization, or equivalent work experience.
- Demo reel required demonstrating strong artistic skills including knowledge of color, lighting, perspective, scale, and composition.
- Familiarity with scripting concepts
- Familiarity with one or more animation package (Maya is preferred)
- Experience in a Linux production environment is required.
- Scripting or programming experience is a plus.
- At least 5-7 years of experience in the high end feature film visual effects and feature animation compositing.
Skills , Abilities, Special Licenses or Certificate:
- Traditional art portfolio demonstrating traditional art skills is a plus.
- Ability to manage resources to achieve aesthetic goals on schedule.
- Demonstrate the ability to prioritize and manage time well.
- Expert knowledge of Nuke or equivalent is required.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong problem solving skills.
