Big Apple Circus Ring Crew
The newly revitalized Big Apple Circus is seeking ring crew members available to travel a significant portion of the year. In this position, you will be instrumental in creating a show of the highest caliber for our audiences, while ensuring the safety and well-being of performers and fellow crew members. You will be involved in all aspects of the show related to equipment, sets, props, winches, and rigging, and will be expected to have a solid knowledge of all facets of stagecraft.
Specific Duties:
• Assemble and disassemble all equipment associated with, but not limited to, the Ring Crew Department.
• Build set pieces according to technical drawings or other direction.
• Move props and scenery during performances and rehearsals.
• Operate rigging system and related equipment for performances, artist training, and
maintenance, at heights directed by the Ring Crew Chief and Artistic, Company, and
Technical Management; this includes motorized winches controlling aerial acts.
• Develop a thorough knowledge of all rigging equipment specific to the production in order to
operate and maintain mechanized and manual rigging equipment safely.
• Inspect and maintain equipment, and update maintenance and inspection records as directed.
• Maintain a safe working environment at all times by conforming to established safety policies
and procedures, participating in required safety classes, and completing emergency rescue
procedures training. Comply with all safety and security procedures related to the show.
• Direct local crews in loading and unloading.
• Perform all other job-related duties as requested.
Requirements:
• Willingness and ability to tour year round.
• Basic knowledge of hand tools and their use.
• Basic understanding of theatrical terms and directions.
• Ability to read, comprehend, and write basic instructions, short correspondence and memos.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measurement, using whole
numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in
written, oral, and diagram form.
• Professional appearance and demeanor.
• Work carried shifts, including weekends and holidays.
• Ability to climb, work and perform repairs at heights up to 40' using wire rope ladder and
safety equipment with a 300lb limitation.
• Ability to lift 50lbs and push/pull 100lbs.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time, squat, run and climb.
Preferred but Not Required:
• Previous experience inspecting and terminating wire, rope and connection points.
• Previous experience splicing rope.
• Previous experience inspecting and operating rigging equipment.
• Working knowledge of OSHA.
• Bilingual.
• Basic skills in scenic painting.
• Basic knowledge of welding.
