513 is an award-winning production design firm specializing in environmental design for television shows and live events.
We seek to involve team members at all levels, as well as designers of all disciplines. By promoting from within, we are seeking to build a strong team with diverse artistic backgrounds. At 513, we find it important and necessary to work within all mediums and to push the boundaries of the disciplines.
General Information: We offer [3-4] internship positions per semester. Candidates must be a graduate student; an undergraduate student; or have graduated from college within 6 months of beginning the internship. All internships are unpaid. Interns may receive academic credit if an agreement is made between 513 and the intern's college or university.
Commitment: Spring & Fall semesters: 2 days fixed schedule per week. 16 hour minimum in the studio.
Summer: 2 days fixed schedule per week. 16 hour minimum in the studio plus time outside on group project.
Tasks: -Researching concepts and creating mood boards -Modeling, using Computer programs and creating white models of venues and set designs -Helping run the 513 Blog and social media sites -Organizing orders and deliveries and helping to manage Production Schedules -Sourcing materials & props, picking and ordering samples -Being involved in creating sketches for clients -Building graphics and CAD files for our shows, presentations and internal libraries -Small prop building and creative art projects -Answering Phones & Running Errands Objectives of the Internship Program -Experience in working for a design firm -Gain onsite experience in productions -Learn measuring techniques on site surveys -Learn to read scale drawings and the components of drafting television sets -Learn about designing sets for Camera and film productions -Work through the creative process from concept, development and implementation -Learning about materials used in Production Design and sourcing props/furniture/materials with consideration to timeline, budget and capabilities of products -Gain experience working with 2D and 3D computer design. -Learning techniques sourcing and shopping for props, visiting and purchasing from the major prop houses of New York City As a 513 Intern, you will be involved in physical tasks at the office, spending time on site at fabrication shops, and tapings of shows.
