As a Character Surfacing Lead artist you will assist the Character Surfacing Supervisor to lead a team of artists in creating shading networks with detailed texture maps for characters, providing balanced solutions to both technical and aesthetic related issues.
Responsibilities
• Receives direction from the Supervisor and takes it to the team, providing feedback and reviewing work.
• Works with the Director and Supervisor to elevate the quality to the next level.
• Evaluates shading artists' work, making sure all assets follow the quality standards and artistic direction.
• Leads characters/props creation and is responsible for the work presented by the team.
• Iterates with the Production Designer and the Characters Designers to find the final character/prop design that has been previously approved by the Supervisor.
• Keeps up on current artistic methodologies and on technology trends and tools that best suit the production and the company, in the development of a stronger creative and technical environment.
• Provides shading support to the Lighting and FX teams throughout production.
• Shows a proactive approach to learning new skills and tools.
• Acts as the link between inputs and outputs departments as modelling, rigging, lighting, scene compositing.
• Proposes solutions to technical problems, defining best ways to proceed.
• Leads the team providing them with support, guidance and instruction in areas that contribute towards their artistic and professional growth, making sure all the assets follow the quality standards and artistic direction and that achieves the deadlines.
• Follows the Supervisor's guidance.
• Acts as the link between input and output departments (Modeling, Rigging, Lighting, Compositing).
• Proposes solutions to technical problems, defining the best ways to proceed.
Requirements
• 6 years of professional experience in VFX or animation industries.
• At least 1 year of experience as Lead in the animation industry.
• Strong artistic or/and technical aptitude related to 3D animation is a must.
• Possesses deep knowledge of creating UVs.
• Knowledge of skinning, rigging, lighting and optimization.
• Strong artistic or/and technical aptitude related to 3D animation.
• Experience in Mari, Maya, Substance Designer, Painter, Renderman and Houdini.
