The Development Operations Associate is an integral role in the Development Operations team, supporting and enhancing the processes through which we identify, track and enter information for our fundraising efforts. They will be responsible for assisting with prospect research, gift processing and database projects under the guidance of the Sr. Director of Development Operations. Primarily the role will focus on proactively identifying opportunities for prospect identification and qualification, and assisting with gift entry. They provide support to the Prospect Research Managers and Gift Processing team for effective fundraising at major giving and principal giving levels. They will support research requests from assigned fundraisers to support the philanthropic efforts of the organization, as well as learn the development team’s CRM set up for gift entry and moves management.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist with the preparation of background summaries for prospective donors and trustees that provide interests, university affiliations, and estimates of financial capacity to guide the development of cultivation and solicitation strategies by development officers
• Conducts research and prepares briefing materials for events and meetings
• Assesses capacity, interest, philanthropy and relationships to qualify the viability of prospects and/or donors
• Identifies potential foundation prospects from external sources including but not limited to, Foundation Directory and Chronicle of Philanthropy
• Identifies and assesses viability of new opportunities for grants
• Coordinate entry of contact reports, prospect strategies, substantive actions and information updates
• Serves as a backup to the Development Operations Assistant
• Process donations to NPR from individuals and institutions into Raiser’s Edge database
• Assigned daily and weekly lockbox duties to support gift processing team
• Assist with responding to inquiries via NPR’s giving inbox
• Support tracking and reporting of fundraising pipeline in Raiser’s Edge
• Assist Database Manager with data hygiene projects
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree
REQUIRED SKILLS
• 3-4 years of experience in professional work environment, or development experience preferred
• Ability to pursue large volumes of information and find the details relevant to fundraising
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with sensitive information
• Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines
• Extremely detail oriented in delivering accurate results and entering proper information
• Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and presentation skills
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Must be a team player who can work autonomously and prioritize work
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel is required
• Familiarity with CRM database
PREFERRED SKILLS
• Proficiency in Raiser’s Edge donor database, Salesforce or similar system
• Demonstrated skill in utilizing multiple electronic resources such as Lexis/Nexis, iWave, WealthEngine, ResearchPoint or Foundation Search to locate and compile business and biographic information
• Understanding of individual, institutional or event fundraising
