Position Overview
The Communications Manager provides support for the Corporate Communications function with a primary focus on regional and national media relations. The individual will assist with written communication, publicity coordination and story placement for initiatives including music events, partnerships, and national and local programs and initiatives. This position reports to the SVP, Communications of iHeartMedia.
Responsibilities
• Develop & implement publicity programs around company music initiatives including drafting press materials, vetting and targeted pitching to trade and entertainment press.
• Responsible for story placement on company initiatives in top tier and trade press outlets through release distribution, phone and email pitching on events, sponsorship angles, etc.
• Plan and execute publicity for the iHeartRadio Theaters - NY and LA including coordinating all things related to PR for the show with artist camps, sales partners and press.
• Support the planning and execution of publicity/red carpet for iHeartMedia tent pole events including the development of press materials, pre event press, press event/red carpet execution and post distribution.
• Work closely with the National Sales, Marketing and Partnership division to evaluate and implement potential publicity opportunities around new initiatives and campaigns as well as oversee the publicity coordination with event partners and sponsors.
• Support iHeartMedia's 850 local stations communications needs - develop and review external press materials including station staff changes, format flips, local events, sales partnerships, etc. Supply guidance to markets on press inquiries, assist and review press Q and A and staff press calls.
• Develops and maintains relationships with key media contacts (national and local press, etc.) including day-to-day pitching and media coordination.
• Remain knowledgeable of world and industry events, as they may affect the company's planning and reputation. Anticipate and address questions and concerns through the preparation of talking points and Q&A; utilize timely happenings to company's advantage when applicable.
• Provide internal communications support for all divisions under iHeartMedia including the development and dissemination of strategic internal messaging including company memos, staff announcements, Q & A etc.
• Support iHeartRadio blog with relevant content featuring music and entertainment initiatives.
Qualifications
• Strong media relations experience and excellent oral & written communications and sharp editing skills
• Existing editorial relationships with key consumer entertainment media outlets
• Strong management & organizational skills
• Experience in multimedia related projects - MNRs, SMT, b-roll distributions, etc.
• Strong work ethic, ability to work well under pressure & multi-task
• Ability to work a flexible schedule
• 5 years of experience in the development and execution of communication plans and public relations programs with emphasis on entertainment publicity.
Education
• BA/BS in Public Relations/Communications/Journalism
