A high-energy, fast-paced company is looking for a seasonal English Captioner for our Subtitle Department. We are looking for a person who is a team player and can handle multiple projects. The ideal candidate will have the ability to adapt, solve problems, work independently, work with staff, communicate clearly both written and verbally, is extremely detail oriented, has exceptional time management and can work under pressure. The company offers comprehensive services for major content providers like film studios, television networks and corporate clients who publish and market media for global distribution.
POSITION SUMMARY
The English Captioner is a member of the Subtitle team. This position is responsible for the edit of written descriptions of the visual elements of dramatic, historic and family oriented programs from selected public and broadcast network television series, feature films and environmental installations. Schedule flexibility will be necessary to accommodate workflow. Overtime will occasionally be mandatory according to project deadlines.
The main task of a English Captioner is to create or reformat/edit captions and subtitles to the provided video master file for distribution over a variety of platforms such as Netflix, iTunes, Amazon, Google and Hulu.
Summary of essential job functions:
Creating captions, subtitles and English templates for translation into foreign languages
Reformatting or conforming foreign language files to video master
Encoding and export of caption and subtitle files for delivery
File delivery and archive, corresponding updates of workflow management system.
Identification and reporting any issues to the production team in a clear and concise manner
Strictly adhering to deadlines and other client requirements
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
•Read copy or proof to detect and correct errors in spelling, punctuation and syntax.
•Create and edit files that represent perfect English grammar.
•Complete work assignments in a timely and accurate manner.
•Responsible for managing tight deadlines, scheduling, integrating technology effectively, and communicating with project coordinators and subtitle operators.
•Possess the aptitude to learn specific, subtitle- centric computer programs.
•Work well under pressure in a deadline driven environment.
•Ability to work independently and as a team player.
•Specific vision abilities include close vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.
•Be proactive and communicate problems/issues/developments effectively to supervisor, peers, and/or internal staff as needed.
•Proficient in the use of captioning and subtitling applications such as Swift, MacCaptions and other proprietary systems
•Working knowledge of various captioning and subtitling specs for different content owners and delivery platforms
•Excellent English grammar and spelling
•Fast and accurate typing skills - minimum 60 wpm
•Proven ability to work quickly and independently, anticipating, recognizing and resolving problems with minimal supervision
•Ability to handle multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced environment
•Must be detail-oriented with exceptional time management skills
•Positive attitude and strong work ethic
•The ability to follow through on instructions
•Wide range of interests such as literature, music, sports and cinema
•Knowledge of current affairs very desirable
•Meticulous attention to detail and exceptional listening skills
