Music Teacher-No teaching certificate required!
SCAI's goal is to bring music-centered educators to all schools within Allegheny county that otherwise lack the funding to provide these classes. We are currently seeking PART TIME afterschool music teachers for the 2017-2018 school year to fulfill this role.
Key responsibilities include:
-Building a classroom culture in which students enjoy music;
-Engaging students in the creative process and encouraging their talents
-Expanding their knowledge and understanding of music and music theory
-Introducing lessons that have the ability to impact to the community
-Introducing/expanding on basic instrument knowledge
Successful candidates should also have the following experiences and characteristics:
-Have prior experience in performing and teaching music
-Have reliable transportation
-Able to work under pressure
-Have excellent organization, communication, leadership, and problem solving skills.
-Are passionate about music, learning, and children.
-Have the ability to secure all relevant and necessary clearances.
-Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying learning styles, needs and interest.
The following are preferred but not required:
-Bachelor's degree in Music or Music Education
-Experience with steel drums
-Examples of past work, website
-Experience working with children
Young Men and Women's African Heritage Association (YMWAHA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to engaging the Pittsburgh community through culture, arts and education programs.
YMWAHA's mission is to provide school-aged children and their families with the cultural, artistic and educational tools necessary to become positive and active members of society.
Steel City Arts Initiative (SCAI) was born in early 2017 under the nonprofit Young Men and Women's African Heritage Association. SCAI promotes that music is a needed part of curriculum and will help reform education.
SCAI's vision is to become Pittsburgh's leading community-based initiative that provides children with the ability to grow through cultural identity, empowering our future leaders with a sense of determination, accomplishment, personal growth, and creative expression.
