Junior Project Manager
POSITION SUMMARY
The Junior Project Manager is responsible for helping drive the roadmap for the Entertainment vertical (Moviefone and Wonderwall), as well as provide traffic management for assets and requirements between teams. This passionate, hands-on individual, will manage the master priorities, schedule, and cross-team action items. They will need to effectively map resources against priorities and keep the projects moving on schedule.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage Project Lifecycle: from initiation, tracking tasks, reporting status, change control, risk management, closure & post mortem
• Product Owner Support: supporting the product manager(s) in managing expectations for project deliverables, helping to manage stakeholder communications, and help to implement an effective system of project governance
• Process Management and Improvement – helping to define and manage a well-defined project management process and champion ongoing process improvement initiatives to implement best practices for Agile Project Management.
• QA Management– work directly with internal & external software development and QA to ensure that features and bugs are completed as defined by the Product Manager, and ask for clarification when there are questions
• Create Jira Tickets – create some non-spec tickets with direction from the Product Manager (e.g. expand initial descriptions, add screenshots)
• Product Research – research reported problems and identify possible solutions (review with product manager(s)) and participate in feature definitions with product manager(s)
• Work in an independent fashion, solve problems, make decisions, and communicate effectively in difficult situations
• Be passionate about delivering the best creative, but find ways of producing it that does not jeopardize schedule and budget
SKILLS:
• Technically savvy –understanding of the digital space & be able to interface with business, design, engineering & product management.
• Strong entrepreneurial & leadership qualities. Strong interpersonal skills including collaborating, and team building. Ability to influence without authority.
• Understanding of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) models and knowledge of agile & traditional project management methodologies such as Scrum & Kanban.
• Solid analytical, planning, and organizational skills with an ability to manage competing demands.
• Understanding of and demonstrated experience in using appropriate tools such as Jira/Rally, Confluence MS Project / Omniplan, Visio etc.
• Creative approach to problem-solving with the ability to focus on details while maintaining the “big picture” view.
REQUIREMENTS
• Prior experience (2-3 years) as a junior producer/project manager or project manager or directly related experience
• Management of projects that were on schedule and budget
• Effective communication skills
• Experience scoping large engagements, with development of project plans in MS Project / Omniplan or equivalent
• Familiarity with digital project types: websites, mobile applications, iPad / tablet implementations, IAB advertising implementations
• Strong knowledge of web development technologies and quality assurance processes
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent required.
• This position reports to the Executive Editor of the Entertainment vertical
