WDJT-TV, CBS affiliate in Milwaukee, is seeking a Full Time Assistant Chief Engineer. In this position you will coordinate and perform maintenance of computer and broadcast equipment of television broadcasting stations. Responsibilities include maintain an effective preventative maintenance program for all equipment, assisting and advising Chief Engineer in planning for future equipment installation, requirements, and budgetary recommendations, managing and maintaining complex television integrated systems with minimum to no supervision. Must have knowledge of FCC rules and regulations regarding television broadcasting.
Additionally the ideal candidate will have practical working knowledge of plumbing, HVAC and basic construction techniques, as well as professional RF engineering knowledge to maintain and repair all technical equipment in studio and transmitter facilities, satellite downlink and microwave transmission systems. You may be involved in the design and construction of new engineering projects as directed by Chief Engineering and project and will be on call 24/7 to provide timely response to critical off-air situations, equipment issues, transmitter issues, etc. The preparation and timely delivery of operational reports as well as status reports for on-going station projects and compliance documents are required. Must be able to troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve master control, studio and production equipment issues and effectively present information and respond to local management, viewers and general public.
You will be responsible for the management of continuous technical operations of the television station and act as head of the Engineering Department in the absence of Chief Engineer. A Bachelor degree in engineering or related field or equivalent level of knowledge to enable you to perform substantially the same work as a degreed individual is required. Candidates must have 3+ years experience maintaining modern broadcast equipment with continued engineering education/certification. FCC license or SBE certification a plus Strong maintenance, organizational, computer and people skills with the ability to travel as needed. Must be physically able to bend, lift and carry up to a maximum of 70 pounds, as well as climb on step-stools, ladders and other necessary equipment. Must have solid working knowledge of PC's, networks, routers, MS operating systems and application software such as Word and Excel.
