Description:
The Social Media Specialist is the a developer of audiences across We Are The Mighty owned social media and the first line of digital reporting. We're not looking for someone to just be a Twitter and Facebook drone. The ideal candidate should be proactive and capable of participating in the development of editorial strategy.
Roles and responsibilities:
• Populate social accounts on a 24/7 schedule
• Edit headlines to maximize click through and engagement on all stories
• Pitch stories to editorial staff
• Coordinate responsive advertising spends on Facebook posts; identify the posts that are performing or will perform for the audience
• Analyze content performance across social media to identify trends and opportunities
• Work with WATM's wider creative team to identify cross-platform opportunities
• Act as eyes and ears on social platforms, alerting the editorial team of breaking news
• Coordinate the creation of platform-specific content with our production teams, including text, photo, and video
• Translate content so that it appeals to the different user experiences and consumption habits across different social networks
• Identify the most compelling visuals to accompany content, and package those for effective sharing
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in relevant field e.g. journalism, marketing, entertainment, public relations, etc.
• You're familiar with Chartbeat or Parsely
• Strong headline writing chops
• Expert user (or at least astute observer) of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest and most major social media platforms
• Experience in journalism, social media and/or marketing
• Visual media experience a plus (photography, videography)
• Intermediate or better Photoshop skills
• Hands-on experience using and acting on data collected from key analytics tools, such as Google Analytics, Twitter Analytics, Facebook Insights, and others
• Basic understanding of HTML and experience with content management systems a plus
• Military experience
• Can make a mean GIF
• Can hold your own in a meme war
