Full Time Paid Internship
The Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy is a non-profit organization with the mission of using baseball and softball as vehicles to foster positive character development, academic achievement and improved health among Washington, D.C. youth living in underserved communities. The Academy operates on 9 acres, equipped with 3 baseball/softball diamonds, a community garden, and an indoor facility containing a concession stand, classrooms, a full teaching kitchen, office space, and an indoor training room. The Academy is looking for a hard-working and team-oriented individual to join in the management and maintenance of these facilities for the fall, spring, and/or summer seasons. The Facilities Management intern will be responsible for helping with upkeep and overall maintenance of the grounds, fields, as well as the indoor facilities as needed. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, mound maintenance, synthetic turf maintenance, irrigation, tarping, field set-up and building maintenance.
Duration of internship: June to August
Tasks and Duties:
• Assist with the management of fields, including mound and synthetic turf maintenance, tarping, and field set-up responsibilities.
• Assist with the management and maintenance of the grounds and building.
• Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
• Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student of an accredited college or university and have completed a minimum of 1 semester or have graduated from an accredited college or university within the last 6 months.
• Minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
• Successfully pass a Background Investigation.
• Available for the entire term of the Internship.
• Ability to work outside in varying weather.
• Ability to lift and move equipment.
• Ability to work with several individuals on projects.
• Ability to work a minimum of 20 hours per week.
• Internship is unpaid
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities necessary to perform essential functions

• Experience in and knowledge of turf or facilities/construction management or an interest in sports facilities maintenance preferred.
• Some experience in baseball/softball grounds maintenance preferred.
• Enthusiasm and desire to learn.
Physical/Environmental Requirements
• Grounds: Groundskeeping interns perform most of their work outdoors in all kinds of weather. The work is not considered dangerous; however, insecticides can be harmful if not handled with caution, and groundskeeping interns working with tools and machines, can be injured if they use them carelessly.
• Maintenance: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an intern encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Intern will be subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme heat, extreme cold, noise, hazards and atmospheric conditions (fumes, odor, dust, mists, gases or poor ventilation). While performing the duties of this position, the intern is regularly required to stand for long periods of time, walk long distances, and climb up/down stairs. The intern is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or sit and must lift and/or move up to 45 pounds.
