Full Time Unpaid Internship
Summary:
The goal of the internship in is to assist all members of the department while gaining skills and experience that is necessary to prepare the intern for a successful career in Human Resources.
The Nationals are a military-friendly organization actively recruiting veterans and spouses.
Duration of Internship: November - May
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist all members of the HR department with projects that may touch all aspects of human resources including work in benefits, HR systems, recruiting onboarding, etc.
• Assists with all recruiting efforts such as, job postings, pre-screening candidates, scheduling interviews etc. This position will also assist with Seasonal Employee recruitment.
• Maintains personnel and benefit files and other HR records in compliance with regulatory requirements as well as the Document Retention Policy.
• Obtains I-9 documentation, DC Wage Letters and other HR paperwork for compliance
• Complete employment verifications.
• Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate level program at an accredited college or university and have completed a minimum of 1 semester or have graduated from a program at accredited college or university within the last 6 months.
• Minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
• Previous HR experience and interest in pursuing a career in HR preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities necessary to perform essential functions
• Strong organizational, time management and project management skills with the ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to quickly adapt and flex according to business and customer needs.
• Understands how to manage information, balancing employee confidentiality with business needs; knows when to communicate upwards.
• Understands the need for data integrity and pays attention to maintaining accurate and timely data.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Internet Explorer.
• Available for the entire term of the Internship.

Physical/Environmental Requirements
• Office: Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
