ADA - Alternative Distrib Alliance
Department Description:
The ADA Business & Legal Affairs department provides global legal and business affairs support to Alternative Distribution Alliance (“ADA”). ADA provides distribution, sales and label services to a wide variety of third party record labels and artists around the world.
High Level Job Description:
The VP, Business & Legal Affairs will oversee the ADA Business & Legal Affairs department.
This role will be responsible for negotiating and drafting agreements related to ADA, including all arrangements with third party labels. The VP will provide guidance and strategic advice directly to the President, ADA Worldwide as well as the ADA senior management team and must be able to build consensus among colleagues. The position will be responsible for updating standards, policies and the strategic approach with respect to existing and new third party labels. This person will also be required to coordinate with ADA affiliates across the globe to complete multi-territory arrangements. In-house experience and previous legal work with music companies is strongly preferred. Seasoned negotiation, drafting, and communication skills are a must.
Required Competencies/Skills:
•
Negotiation skills and negotiation experience (in particular, the ability to lead and manage negotiations with both sophisticated companies as well as small label entrepreneurs)
•
Ability to work independently, with minimal oversight
•
Refined and well-practiced drafting skills (in particular, the ability to draft quickly, and to develop creative solutions with demanding partners)
•
The ability to manage and prioritize large numbers of projects
•
Strong organization skills, Excellent communicator, motivated self-starter, team player, and dedicated professional
•
Expertise in the recorded music industry as well as legal issues and recent developments related thereto
•
Familiarity with independent labels and independent music preferred
Education Required:
• J.D. with at least 7 years transaction legal experience and at least 4 years of experience working as a music lawyer. Expertise in music distribution and recording agreements is essential.
• Candidates must be in good standing in their local jurisdiction.
